1989 Dodge Caravan turbo for sale or trade.

It had a new engine (factory remanufactured) put in not that long ago and it only has about 17,000 kms on it. The engine is a Dodge 4 cylinder turbo. I believe it needs a new head gasket and possibly some other related work.

I'm pretty sure it just needs a new head gasket, but I do not know much about fixing vehicles so I cannot guarantee this is the only thing wrong.

I don't have the money to fix it, insure it, or pay for gas to run it, so I'm selling it. Right now it's just costing me money to keep it parked.

It doesn't have any seats in the back, although I would probably be able to get the seats for it if needed. This thing can haul gear.

As for a price, I'm looking for ANY offers. Either post here or email me: [email protected] - Wed, 20 Apr 2005 9:56pm

most shops will only charge you $600- $1000 for head gasket replacement. not an amature job.

it's wothless, face it. call a toe truck to take it away. - Tue, 26 Apr 2005 3:25pm

There ARE people out there who have the time/space/ability to do the job themselves.

The fact is it DOES have a relatively new engine in it, and I've seen these vans being sold for over $500 with a blown head gasket and extremely high kms. - Tue, 26 Apr 2005 3:31pm

I'm not selling it for $45. Sorry.

If you want to get an idea of what these sell for, have a look in the Buy and Sell. Keep in mind this has very low miles on the engine unlike most of the 89-90 turbo Caravans and Voyagers for sale there.

I'm not looking for a huge amount of money for this...just more than $45.

Search for "caravan turbo" and you'll see what I mean about prices on these. Thanks. - Mon, 2 May 2005 10:25am

Maxwell - The head gaskets in these vans seem to be what goes...

It's also what I was told by someone who does know what they're talking about.

In my first post I said that I was pretty sure it needed a head gasket. I suppose it could be something else, but I really doubt it.

If you want more info about it (or to come look at it), you can email me privately. Thanks. - Mon, 2 May 2005 1:25pm

I am serious. totally serious. $50. If it's the cash you don't like I can write you a cheque.
Basically you are selling a vehicle that is worthless, or worse a money pit, to anyone who can't fix it themselves. Also minivans are everywhere, look at all the responses to the link in the post you wrote. If I can buy a running one for under $800 I'm not going to buy one that isn't running and spend that much on getting the head gasket replaced. Even if it's low mileage, that doesn't matter if it's already starting to fail. That just means that whoever did the rebuild didn't do as good a job as you thought. The fact that the headgasket goes frequently on high mileage engines doesn't pertain to a recently re-built engine. If I got an engine rebuilt and it blew a head gasket with only 17,000 miles on it I would be pretty pissed at the people who rebuilt it.
Also it's only the engine which has low miles right? What about the rest of the drivetrain, the weakest point on these things is the transmission. I bet that's got over 200k on it. - Mon, 2 May 2005 1:35pm

I know a $30-40/hr mechanic who did my "$1500 to fix your car so it'll pass inspections, better just walk away" (so the official, real mechanic shop said...), my friend of a friend did all the work for $500. He even patched up the paint job for no extra cost...

Just in case anyone wants this van and thinks it'll be $600-1000 to fix.

Maybe the van-seller should tell us what symptoms he is getting that point to a possible head-gasket replacement...

BTW when head gaskets blow that is the end of your engine. water in the crank case is very bad. you may fix the head gasket and drive for 500k's and then your bottom bearings seize.

does it aleast have a CD player?

I'd say it's worth at least a few hundred if it's not rusty. I used to drive the exact van and if I had the cash i'd buy this one. Dodge's 2.2 turbos are notorious for blown headgaskets so it shouldn't be hard to find someone with experience to fix it. - Wed, 4 May 2005 4:15pm
