Did anyone catch the show tonight? There weren't a ton of people that came out but we had so much fun playing tonight, and think we played one of our best sets ever... Thanks to the other bands, and to Tom and Kilimanca for putting together a fun show!

Thanks to everyone who did come out. We all had a lot of fun playing, and it was interesting to see 4 bands with such different sounds play together.

AcidWash put on a pretty good set, and rocked out pretty well considering that they went on before many people got there. They were picking up steam when the circuit breaker blew in the Garry Oak room, and took the technical difficulty well. It was also great to see a (somewhat drunk?) AcidWash try to get the people moving during the later sets.

Kilamanca - I won't comment about my own band, except to say that we all felt like we played pretty well, and thanks to everyone for listening.

Anita Hoare - this was the band from Vancouver, in their first show on the island. We weren't sure what to expect from them, but they definately rocked out and made things a little dirty. Still cant believe they played the Chasey Lane song (bloodhound gang, for all you kids). I also must say that those guys have a good strong stage presence.

The Vendors - overall impressive, good energy, lots of bouncing around on stage. This was the first time I've seen them, so I'm not really sure how to define the sound, but they definately rocked the entire 3-block radius. - Sat, 16 Apr 2005 1:22am

Thanks to all that came out, pretty good turnout and some good bands!....................but the soundguy .....well what can i say........

ACidwash: after two of our songs we started getting hella feedback from the pa and a low bass hum that seemed to overpower us all, not to mention the soundguy turning up and down our vocals everytime we sang so it was always diffrent. By the end of our set all the shit was humming and feedbacking and BAM ..........no power. Kinda bullshit.......I just have to say one more thing about this because its happened to us before,, sorry about the rambling. Our band works hella hard for months practicing our set over and over trying to get it tight and when you get to the show and start playing and someone outside of the band........fucks up the sound and doesn't seem to give a shit about fixing it and doesn't seem to care, It just pisses me off. I wish the soundguys would care more about their job because their getting paid afterall.

"how many many sound guys does it take to screw in a light bulb??.........only one but it won't work very well.""

Thanks to curtis d and his guys for the show.

Kilamanca:

Has a good overall sound for sure
- nice sounding vocals
- good catchy songs and some good lead action. the slide really did it for me.
-bass player held his own
-more pump up energy is something to look at for the future but overall sick set.
-definately check these guys out if you have not seeen them

Anita hoare:

Band from van made the journey over
-nice 3 piece band
-straight up rock songs
- pretty cool, singer had some nice presence

Vendors:

-first time seeing these guys live and they were pretty tight.

bass player had hellla energy,, good work on his part
drummer was kicking some ass behind his kit,,,,,definately talented. I think he should work on not going heavy/fills cymbal work the whole time, maybe just a little softer inn the verse so the vocals and guitars get heard a little more. But very talented for sure.
Just a little loud levels overall. - Sat, 16 Apr 2005 7:59am

Thanks for coming to the show everyone. This is gonna be short cause I'm tired.

Acidwash- opened up with great energy and played through sound issues for which I am very sorry. The band was very tight. It seemed like the first song went a long time or ran into the second one, but it was a good kick start to the show.

Kilamanca- yes.

Anita Hoare- came from Vancouver, got the crowd into it, played some tight rock. Good stage presence from the bass and guitar player.

The Vendors- high energy songs, and a great way to close out the night. Thanks for headlining. - Sat, 16 Apr 2005 10:22am

I went. Woot.

Acid Wash: Good band considering how old they are. I would have liked to see less solos and more vocals. I mean, I enjoy a guitar solo here and there. But after the 5th one, it was kind of like "Ok, you can play fast, good for you, lets hear some more singing".

But I'd deffenetly like to see them progress a bit, and look forward to hearing from them in the future.

Killamnca - Weird name. Anyways, they were quite good. I liked their sound. It's nice to hear that kind of music in the local scene, cause while Punk and HARD-Rock are good every now and again, I get tired of it usually quite quickly. So props to them. Plus the singer's glasses were mad sweet.

Anita Hoare - Not really my type of music, but I got a free pin, so they're not all bad.

The Vendors - Finally, I can now see what everyone's been raving about. I hadnt seen them before, but knew a couple of their songs. (As the crowd thanked me for, for singing along to 'Tables Have Turned' {Thank you to Michelle Brown for telling me about you guys}). A good set, good energy. The only thing I would change, is the cover. Either put it earlier on in the set, the last song, or cut it. When you play a cover later in the set, it always seems like its kind of like "Uhh, we need more songs...lets just jam something else in". But thats just my opinion.

Two things I also want to say.

1) The sound guy was not the greatest. Killamanca organized the show, so I assume they were incharge of that. If you do another one (which I hope my band gets to play in :) ), I would deffenetly try and find a new sound guy.

2) I took a bunch of pictures, but because I'm an idiot, most of them didnt turn out. The only ones that really did were the Vendors ones because I forgot to turn the camera on to a certain setting. If someone from the Vendors could email me [email protected] I'll pass the pictures on. - Sat, 16 Apr 2005 10:56am

Greg,
Thanks for the kind words, but everyone is entitled to an opinion. Colin, thanks for using this board for it's purpose, which is reviewing the shows, and telling what you thought. I appreciate it.

Now guys let's take some of this passion and anger and put it into our music, mmmkay? Let's keep the boards for their real purposes, and not just bicker back and fourth on these things. Now, what did you think of the show? - Sun, 17 Apr 2005 2:13pm

Ok I went to this show. The first band AcidWash seemed like they had some good songs, but did not sound great. This could have been due to the bad sound, bad accoustics of the room, and the lead guitarist's amp being louder than the rest. Also they MIKED THEIR BASS DRUM in a tiny little room, so they can blame themselves or the sound technician. But I would go and see them again, as long as the sound was better.

The second band was Killimanca; they were different I guess. Not different as in unique, but rather different because they didn't play too loud or try to drown out their songs in lots of noise. It was good clean rock music, not hard rock, just rock music, and a lot of variety between the songs. The could have organized their set a bit better to make it flow more, but it was mostly good and nice to listen to.

The third band Anita Hoare gave me a free pin. Then they were taking everyon's email address after the show and I gave them a fake one. But they were ok. The bass was too loud, but the drummer was unbelievable good.

The last band was the Vendors. You guys put on a good show I admit, but I had to leave because it was too loud and I forgot my earplugs. I stood outside and listened for a while after I left, sounded really good and the music was tight.

It was a weird show because the bands didn't really fit together. But every band was good in its own musical style. I think Killimanca had the best sound, because I could actually hear them and I could groove, and the Vendors put on the best show because those guys are nuts but too loud for that room. - Sun, 17 Apr 2005 4:29pm

Thanks Lou&Eddie for the feedback and getting this thread on topic. it's spelt Kilamanca, it's an odd name, but it's us.

This is literally our second show ever, it was an interesting experience. We were very careful in practicing our set to make sure melodies came first. I guess it never occured to us that a lot of the interest seems to be sets where you can jump to every single song. We probably did seem out of place with such energetic hard rock bands. Needless to say, we are going to up the energy for our next shows... but you mentioned our set was not constructed ideally... if i may ask, lou&eddie, what would you suggest for a better constructed set? We don't want to get rid of the midtempo songs... we would like to integrate them better to have a smoothly flowing set. - Sun, 17 Apr 2005 5:06pm

Review thread? There are two neutral parties in here. The rest of you are just bands competing with each other, promoting their band and playing down the others.

AcidWash-Nice to see my old soccer buddies Alex and Colin. It's been a while. Opened the show with energy and I could tell they were really enjoying their music, which is really what it's all about. Kept upbeat despite low turnout (especially at the start).

Kilamanca-You guys put on a really good show, but the audience for the other bands wouldn't be the kind that could appreciate your music. Regarding energy, you had the right amount. Maybe a little less on the joking as it didn't seem to go down too well. A little bit is okay but the crowd seemed to get tired after 2 or 3 attempts.

The sound guy seems to be getting poor reviews by basically everybody.

Anita Hoare-Not really my type of music, but they had good stage presence. Seemed out of place with younger audience members (suck my cock shirt) etc. Yeah there's a place for it but I think that there was definitely an audience-band mishap that occurred at this show.

The Vendors-I had to go early in, but they seemed to be energetic. For such a reputation I would have thought you'd have more fans beyond your girlfriends though.

Overall 5 bucks was about the value of this concert. Due to the variety of bands there, there truly was something for everyone.

Regarding the comment above about "you are right he is awesome, but he doesnt need to work on anything he sounds great, keep up the good work vendors," is a joke. Every band that I saw there has something to work on. - Sun, 17 Apr 2005 5:28pm

To Kris:

Killamanca. If I had to compare them to a band, I would probably put them in the same Catagory as someone like Oasis. They were just a straight up Rock and Roll band. The kind of band you'd hear in some cliche Rock Bar. If you're in to that type of music, I'd deffenetly recommend checking them out. I hope to see them again. - Sun, 17 Apr 2005 8:17pm
