I've heard that they let acoustic shows go down there but have no idea what their deal is. Do they let anyone play? do they have a PA? Do they charge to rent or is it chill? Anyone who knows.. share the knowledge as I am looking to play an acoustic show. Email me at [email protected] - Thu, 10 Mar 2005 9:59pm

Now I don't know much about this, but I think they alow more than just acoustic shows. I know I've seen the unicorns play there, and i immaculate machine played there. i think you should just go talk to them in person.

took the advice, went down there... they don't do shows anymore. Wouldn't tell me why, except due to "multiple reasons". Anyone know of anywhere to do acoustic sets? - Fri, 11 Mar 2005 4:42pm

there is always spiral cafe, which is okay as far as cafe's go. but it would be nice to have an acoustic show in a venue alternative to a cafe. or someplace like second story which is a bit larger. can always do fernwood community center, but the acoustics aren't so awesome. - Sat, 12 Mar 2005 3:55pm

Yeah that's why I was looking into Second Story.. It's a nice size, but they don't do shows anymore. It would be awesome to have an acoustic show at a real venue but I don't know what the draw would be like.. - Sat, 12 Mar 2005 4:14pm

I think if you could get a band that usually draws well, to do an acoustic set, it could be pretty sucsesful. - Sat, 12 Mar 2005 8:40pm

yeah the gary oak room actually would be pretty good, it's not too huge and the acoustics are generally fairly good. lets do it. - Sun, 13 Mar 2005 8:10pm

It could be expensive if you don't get out a good crowd though. But I was thinking you could get like 6 or 7 acts on the bill if it was just acoustic. - Mon, 14 Mar 2005 1:17am

Lil' Fernwood stopped doing electric shows, only does accoustic shows now. Small room, about the size of second story. - Mon, 14 Mar 2005 7:26am

'Kris is totally right, because no one wants to hear a band do 40 minutes of acoustic tunes, not one band anyways. short snappt sets baybee. I think Gary Oak room is too expensive a venture for an acoustic show. - Mon, 14 Mar 2005 9:49am

Perhaps you could get someone like Maurice to play acoustic as a headliner? They played an acoustic set at the Spiral Cafe a couple weeks ago and it was packed. Armchair Cynics could be another possibility, either would draw really well. - Mon, 14 Mar 2005 4:51pm

Another suggestion!!! Cheap and easy and fun as hell:

Wait till July. Put it on at the beach. If its acoustic, you can't get busted by the cops. People can bring blankets, you can get food, it can go on all night. - Tue, 15 Mar 2005 3:33am

Thats a really good Idea Kris. Assuming no one gets stupid and brings out alcohol, there would be no reason for the cops to break it up. It would be very intimate, and could be a big sucess - Tue, 15 Mar 2005 8:35am

the warmer months are coming.. that sounds like a fantastic idea. 100 kids at the beach would be a good time. weather permitting. do they allow fires on the beaches still? - Thu, 17 Mar 2005 10:24pm

Not a bad idea remember this is ol vic...if you really want to do it....you have to
a) basically let the cops know, be staight up and keep the booze to a minimum- remember its empties that get you busted
b) go to the fire dept and pay $75 and get a permit to have a fire at an aproved beach
c)somehow keep the people that like to fuck things up away...thats the hard one

other then that shit only happens when you make it happen - Fri, 18 Mar 2005 2:16am
