I just picked up this album today and OMG!! First of all, any metalhead who hasn't heard of Quo Vadis needs to pick this album up ASAP. Picture a melodic Cryptopsy. Thats the best I can describe them. Now onto the review...

I bought this album for 2 reasons...

1) Quo Vadis had been recommended to me by several tasteworthy people.

2) Steve DiGiorgio is the new bass player, and he is the fucking man!

There is absolutely nothing I can complain about on this disc except for the fact that when it ends, you want it to keep going. The songs are so good, that even though this disc is just shy of 40 mins in length, it just won't be enough.

Now, Quo Vadis are one of the only bands I've heard who could be described as both a technical death metal act, and a melodic death metal act. Because although they are EXTREMELY technical, and the songs are loaded with complex riffing, everything is melodic and catchy. DiGiorgio's smooth yet intricate fretless jazz-influenced basslines are the perfect counterpoint to this. In fact, for me, the bass is the driving force of this album. Anyone familiar with Steve DiGiorgio's previous works will know what I'm talking about. (Control Denied, Sadus, ex-Death).

I must admit, before buying this I had only heard of Quo Vadis, but never actually listened to them. And now, holy shit! This is some of the best death metal I've ever heard.

Your thoughts?

Are they from Montreal or in that area?

I remember hearing something a while ago that intrigued me in so far as I took the time to look around a bit about them (which I rarely do).. the name was at least similar to this band. I remember there was lots of french stuff though.

Your description fits exactly the type of stuff I'd be into, too... and possibly what I'd heard.
Is it a new album? - Wed, 2 Mar 2005 12:57pm

they rule. Got to play with them once. That was a treat. They even did some violin stuff. Then the natives got restless, a rumble broke out and the gig ended ( during Diciples Of Power ) and the Quo Vadis guys were trying to get all their merch out through the rumble!

Good times , good times.. - Wed, 2 Mar 2005 4:00pm

Okay, Quo Vadis have shitty, shitty vocals. I dont care if hes playing guitar. Chuck doesn{t have shitty vocals. If you cant pull it off, get a vocalist. This guy cant. ESPECIALLY when I saw them live. . puke.

Now that thats out of my system, jazz influenced metal fucking pisses me off. Funk-death metal bass pisses me off (see: every grindco .. I mean deathmetal band in vancouver). Quo Vadis: two thumbs down. - Thu, 3 Mar 2005 12:17am

I do agree with you, the vocals on their older albums are definitely terrible, but this new one is pretty worthy (or at least the vox on this one didn't make my skin wrinkle and my saliva coagualte) it was a definite improvement...the music is definitely amazing though...wasn't he the student of Alex Skolnik (Testament?) - Sat, 5 Mar 2005 2:36am

I'm not much of a musician so I don't really know whether its amazing or not, but I like that someone's attempted to provide stuff like that on their site! Thats a lot of work.

haha, I just thought the stuff that canon docre wrote was funny.. every jazz influenced funk death grindcore band in Van.. hahaaaaa, the stuff I adore!
funk??? uh, ok.. I.. guess.. I see what you might mean..

Anyway I heard what I think was that (new) QV album recently (just once) and based on that, I'm excited to see them! - Mon, 23 May 2005 4:58pm
