hey -- check out this link:
http://vancouver.craigslist.org/msg/51190720.html

it's for sale in vancouver.. the things that are wrong with it could probably be fixed with ease. $600 is a killer deal for this keyboard. I'm not sure if it has sold and it was posted back in the beginning of december.. but I thought I'd just let you know. - Tue, 28 Dec 2004 7:36pm

2400 is fucking steep even for a wurlitzer. I have seen them in music shops for 5-800 (800 is with a sustain pedal and legs [which are, of course, really hard to find]). I have owned a few of these, and I hope I don't sound condescending or obvious, but here are a few tips or whatever:
1.Make sure the reeds are in pristine condition and in tune because they are horrid to replace.
2.You can get a really horrible buzzing if any of the reeds have flaked or parts of them have dropped onto the chassis; apparently you are supposed to vacuum the insides every so often (or in my case everytime I moved it).
3. If you are handy, or have a friend that is, you can build a sustain pedal pretty easily. If you do find one that works for you (they are certainly out there), don't let this absence discourage you.
4. Don't ever believe anything that "Martin" at tempotrend says, if they have one in there.

I am not sure why I wrote all of this; maybe because I went through alot of heartache over my wurlitzers and I kind of feel sick when I see one, even though they trounce the rhodes in sound and action, though not reliability. good luck. - Thu, 6 Jan 2005 4:06pm

Aiden, could be that I could build you a nice little tube bass head in the region of 50- 60 watts for around $500 + a couple of tasty trades. Ya really gotta call me... - Sat, 29 Jan 2005 8:35pm

Don't waste your money! 50-60 watts for bass is not enough. Bass needs lots of wattage for good tone. If I were you, I'd go for a minimum of 200 watts. I had an Ampeg V-4 once. They only have 100 watts and in my opinion, it never quite cut it. The more wattage, the better. For bass anyways. - Sat, 29 Jan 2005 9:30pm

tube /amp builder ?
can you build a 50-100 watt stereo power amp just volume clean as posible with 2- 1/4 inch inputs on each side and a ohm selector to run stereo 2x12/4x12 or 8x12.
If so how much?
I dont wanna use a/b box instument select so - Sun, 30 Jan 2005 3:56pm

well, when considering wattage, you have to keep in mind that a tube amp can in reality have a much louder maximum volume with the same wattage as a solid state, since you really don't want the solid state amp anywhere near the top of its range.

when you have, say, a 300 watt solid state amp, that just gives you enough head room so that the amp never distorts, whereas if you have a 100 watt v4 you could crank it up to the full 100 watts of output and have it sound amazing.

another thing to keep in mind is that a tube amp actually can put out more than the full rated output since the valves allow for some extra "give" when they are pushed hard- whereas good luck trying this with a solid state amp! - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 11:33am

You're absolutely correct Mi*Coll* but I had already included that in the equation. Take for instance the Ampeg SVT, which in my opinion, is a much better choice over the Ampeg V-4. It has 350 watts of tube power, lots of big tone with power to spare. I really think [+} needs a 200watt minimum tube amp if he wants to have good tone quality. The V-4 100watt tube amp will not be sufficient unless [+} plans to be jamming in his living room with it. Then it would be ok. - Mon, 31 Jan 2005 2:31pm
