Well, there's no reason why Death/Grind/Gore/Whatever Metal bands should be discluded from the list... there's no reason for a separate list, just list what you like too... and look up the bands you've never heard of, then you'll grow as a person and blossom into a beautiful young girl and maybe (just maybe) you'll find love.

Also Handsome Boy Modeling School's White People is the best I heard this year... but I was mostly listening to older albums. - Sat, 11 Dec 2004 11:20am

I didn't even bother with the Black Metal half of it, waaaay too many to list. But the 1349 cd was absolutely killer, though Liberation was way faster, I liked Beyond the Apocalypse a little better. - Sat, 25 Dec 2004 7:57pm

I thought I would give the bm list a once over but yes there is WAY to many that deserve to be on there that I didn't mention. 1349's Liberation was way faster but both albums weigh in almost equally with me. "Singer Of Strange Songs" is my favourite track from them though.

Special mention for one band I totally neglected is Wyrd with "Vargtimmen Pt.II". - Sat, 25 Dec 2004 11:13pm

I only bought 3 2004 copyrights this year; the new Modest Mouse (their best yet but still only about a b+) and the new Mission of Burma (again, good but not great) and the latest Dillinger (good but heading in a worrysome direction; "Miss machine" could be their "Master of Puppetts"). The best thing I bought all year (out of about 350 records/CD's) was Sam Rivers' 1976 "Sizzle" which I found as a used LP in Calgary (it's not out on CD yet) and which the AMG calls a "fusion" record (yeah, sure, with cello and timpani). It rocks out in a great free improv way and was the only Rivers record ever with a guitarist (Ted Dunbar). But IMO it was a bit of an off year. - Mon, 3 Jan 2005 12:21am

i know what you mean about 2004 being an off year.

some records that i liked:

dillinger's miss machine was a fun time.
i liked the new blood brothers (crimes).
-loved- a ghost is born, and am liking it more and more with each listen.
enjoyed norah's feels like home, i loved the production and the low simmer.
the new beta band was a so so for me so far, but still good
loved most of constellation records overings.

that being said, there were more let downs than great records. - Mon, 3 Jan 2005 11:34am

"But IMO it was a bit of an off year."

"i know what you mean about 2004 being an off year."

Thats funny, I thought 2004 was a very strong year and building to what could be a great 2005. People seem to say that every year. Was 2003 weak?, was 2002?

Ever since the internet and downloading, music just gets better. Thats my take.

Music sounded best when you were young, and if your young, it sucks now b/c everything sucks and you're a virgin and your face is covered in zits. It was better before you were born. Thus is the way it always is.

sorry I don't mean to come down on any one person... its just a pet peeve when I read people slamming current music. - Mon, 3 Jan 2005 7:21pm

Fuck Mainstreem
Im a strange human being if you know what I mean.
I like sittin naked smokin green eating ice-cream.
watch tv drink beer, my manes homer
every morning I wake up with a big fat boner
some say Im a loner, Its all cool though.
I like laying down tracks, with a half-sac in my studio.
Used to get up-set noone played me on the radio.
Now I dont give a fucking shit, its all cool.

Im non-conformed with my sound.
Its about time for some hip-hop underground.
So heres a couple rhymes, from the mouth of a rap fiend.
fuck the industry, fuck mainstreem.

Hobbies are meant to be fun, I refuse to be a sellout
If I notice someone scoutin, Im gonna get the hell-out.
Not so sure what they offer is what I wanted.
Why? so I can get rich and famous, and fucking flaunt it?
Like the bling bling and the dumb gold rings.
I'de rather do my own thing, FUCK MAINSTREEM.
Evan if I make a name I'll still remain anonymous.
If I get rich, I wont forget about the street kids.
Like YOU did, build a shelter complex.
Where its warm, not wet, wanna bet
Gimmee a chance, and I'll prove.
Dont evan doubt it, I'll fucking do it.
May be different in this rap game, but if we were all the same, the whole world would be lame.
Here come my hook, once again.
FUCK THE INDUSTRY, FUCK MAINSTREEM!
But most of all FUCK WHATEVER!

I agree. But the people to blame are the record labels. A band comes out with a hit song, 24hrs later you've got 10 other bands that sound exactly the same. They jump on what ever is hot at the moment to make a buck and then pay radio stations to play it to death. Next thing you know they're a VH1 where are they now special and end up bankrupt because they're victims of the record label. - Thu, 6 Jan 2005 3:11pm

Record labels are business that subscribe to supply and demand. The reason there are so many screamer bands or boy bands or Ushers is b/c everyone wants to hear it. The day you stop buying records, is the day they move on.

All the bands that a label throws out there have all exsisted at the same time. Very few bands are so unique as to corner an entire genre of music, and the very minute few who do, are so bizarre, no one, outside their immidiate scene, will ever hear of them.

More than half the bands in this town sound like smaller versions of mainstream bands. Why? No record labels pulling your strings... You do it because thats the kind of music you like. - Sat, 8 Jan 2005 1:56pm
