I can vividly picture that moment, and I felt icicles when the news came on. I'd just finished listening to 'Mind Games' not an hour before. I couldn't imagine what it must be like to have someone you love brutally slain in front of you and then have to tell your young son that his daddy’s dead . | Wig User Info... | Our grade 6 teacher broke the news to us the next morning. Many of us have heard of the beatles but did not know much about them. | Troutbreath User Info... | I grew up with the Beatles. I was 13 sitting in my parents living room watching the Ed Sullivan Show on a black and white TV when they made their first appearance. (Yes kiddies, Uncle Troutbreath is THAT old) It's a little hard to imagine now, there are so many bands making music aimed at teenagers, but at the time there was nobody like them. All 5 top singles were Beatles songs. Their creative output is astonishing even now. But of the 4 John was the one I related to the most. It wasn't just his music but his writing and his view of the world and his place in it. I was walking down Douglas Street outside the Eaton's center and passed a newspaper stand. The headline made me just stop dead in the middle of the sidewalk. I was so obviously stunned that guy running the stand gave me a paper. It was such a tragic loss.
