Bands, Artists, Festivals, Events, Concerts...ect NO IDEA IS TOO BIG OR TOO SMALL!!! ...just wanting to know what your interested in, this is an attempt at direct marketing. Ask the people what they want! | bkp User Info... | I would really like to see more large outdoor rock concerts in open space venues, like Western Speedway. All day events, with a big headliner to close. I remember one concert at Western Speedway in the early 90s, with Pere Ubu, Hothouse flowers, Crash Vegas, last was Tragically Hip. Could even have local bands as opening acts, then bigger name bands, preferably established names that will draw a crowd. Heck I'd pay to see 5440 and Bryan Adams at that kind of event. In fact, I think it should be a city bylaw that at least one local band gets to open for every arena concert. The Parish opening for Led Zeppelin for an example as stated by Mr Hell. I've been playing shows here for more than a year and have yet to encounter any such 'elitest fucks.' Care to elaborate? as for what I would like to see...I actually think the powers that be have been doing a pretty good job of opening up Victoria as a destination for major bands. Nine Inch Nails, QOTSA, Metric, Broken Social Scene, Run DMC, Tool (fucking Tool!), Elton, Roddy Stewart, Tokyo Police Club, Ween, Cher, Heart, Dandy Warhols...list goes on. I don't really want for musical acts in town. What we always need, and I think I speak for all bands, is more venues. Not that we're completely destitute, and many thanks go to all the fine folks (Niko, Benji, Chris) for opening your doors to us, but it always behooves the city to have more opportunities for local bands to strut their stuff. Church halls, community centres; the facilities exist, but a lot of bands need the benefit of a good networker/promoter to help make grassroots efforts viable. I guess, in other words, help make it cool to go see a band you've never heard of before again in Victoria. Also...I haven't seen a good Oldtimers hockey game in a while. Where's Lanny at? Cliff Ronning's gotta be hitting that circuit by now. Hell, the Courtnalls live here...what're they doing? Non traditional sporting events? Cricket, Jai-Alai, Strongman, Beach Volleyball, Water Polo. Newkidintown, what makes this a great music town is them tiny gigs, a la 24 hour party people.
