How can you pick swollen cocksuckers over NOMEANSNO?????? .. well i suppose its your own opinion. - Tue, 6 Jul 2004 10:47am

User Info...
Mostly because S/M puts on the most energetic and best show i've ever seen. I also happen to like their music (tho sweatshop union is far better but from vancouver).

Also, NOMEANSNO opened for them when they played at Memorial Arena a while back and they played for like an hour. They were far too loud and outstayed their welcome on stage by about 30 minutes. Not my favourites at all. - Tue, 6 Jul 2004 11:35am

That was NoMeansNo?? Crazy.
That was the first show I went to. I didn't know any of the local bands then, I just remembered a "rock" (punk) band opening up and then Insides Out & then Swollen. I've been wanting to see NoMeansNo for awhile, it's funny they played that show & I didn't even realize it. But I gotta agree with Rex on that one, they played too long & were too loud. I remember the drummer twirling his drum stick and dropping it. Heh. Swollen put on a good show, can't say I'm a big hip hop fan but they really know how to work the crowd. I'd go see them if they would play another all ager here & the tickets were reasonably priced. - Tue, 6 Jul 2004 12:39pm

User Info...
what the hell...my all time fav bands from vic from years gone by:

Shutdown -handsdown one of my all time faves especially the No More Fuckin' Privacy and Shutdown 7" releases

Mission of Christ -Griphen gotta get that damn cd off you!

Contempt - totally different intensities between the two releases...personally loved Lettuce on Vocals way heavier than the first...

Black Kronstadt - Loved the early days of this band and was lucky to witness so many of thier great shows ..loved the first lineup best with Danny Bear on drums and Luke on Vox

Mexican Power Authority - besides having a great fucking name..really liked the later releases with Cruiser on clarinet...those dual guitar/clarinet solos were the shit!

Pressure Cooker - say what you want about ska...but any band with Paul Shrimpton and Paul Spriggs in it..is gonna flippin rock no matter which way you put it...the first release on cassette with Jesse Cahill on drums was their finest..

and of course like many people in this town..i could go on and on...so many truly awesome bands when you sit down and think about it...not even scratching the surface with the above mentioned..... - Thu, 8 Jul 2004 10:04pm
