So what's the deal when you only have 4 drinks, never putting your drink down anywhere, you don't remember anything past your third drink....and you are VIOLENTLY fucking ill the next day...non-stop puking for over 12 hours. This is the second time this has happened to me there, what the hell is going on? - Wed, 16 Jun 2004 3:42pm

But, if I never put my drink down...how would GHB get into it? From everything I have heard, my symptoms were classic for being dosed. What I wanna know is does/has this happen to anyone else who has drank there? - Wed, 16 Jun 2004 9:58pm

You guys should give your head a shake.....really.....I love it when people come up and ask me at the bar.... do you guys put stuff in the booze ...or.... do you guys water that shit dow... The answer is NO! And yeah the draft beer we sell is past due....... ITS DRAFT BEER! Of course it tastes like crap. When the beer is delivered it has at least a 3-4 month shelf life! We go through about 16 kegs of the AGD a week.... and no we dont get it for cheap, it cost the same as Canadian or any other draft beer give or take a few $$$ I really wish people would use some common sense and not say or think such stupid things.
If the draft beer bothers you then dont be a cheap ass and buy a bottle instead! If the hard stuff bothers you then maybe try something else! I know that whiskey and I dont get along but vodka and I are very good friends. - Thu, 17 Jun 2004 2:04am

The reason you feel so green the next day is because a lot of establishments don't flush the beer lines out on a regular basis (you tend to waste a ton of beer when your draining the lines, so it can be expensive to do a cleaning). So the bacterial content in the lines can really do a number on your stomach the next day. Plus you tend to get dehydrated in that bar so you drink a lot more, put the two together and it would probably explain a lot. Actually Dirty, do you clean the lines out on a regular basis?!? - Thu, 17 Jun 2004 12:26pm

Griphin PLLEEEAAASSSEEE, Youre killin me man!
Have you ever heard of the "health inspector"??? Well they come thru monthly and well if something was wrong then we'd be closed untill the problem was fixed, and I think the only time we ve been closed is Christmas eve and Christmas day,So we could be with our families! To answer your question yes the lines get cleaned Bi-monthly. Do you really think that "bacteria" has time to form "in the lines" when we re selling 16 kegs a week and we re open 7 nights a week??? C mon like I said before, use some common sense people please! - Thu, 17 Jun 2004 5:21pm

Dirty- maybe you could explain why I have seen so many posts about your establishment and it's alcohol and why so many people I know have gotten ill from only a few drinks??? Doesn't make any sense to me nor is it any good for business. My alcohol tolerance level is quite high, and the beverage I was drinking was my usual drink of choice. This is the second time I have been to your bar and not only have I gotten violently ill from a few drinks, but have lost all memory for the rest of the night. (And no, I am not an alcoholic.) Oh and I ALWAYS have lime.

Only problem with Evo is the agro-witchy waitresses. Last time I was there I ordered a single, they brought me a double, I refused to pay for it and blonde-bitch called the bouncer and bartender over to throw me out. To be fair, the bartender offered to by me a shot if I came over to the bar but I was too freaked out. Not sure if I'll be going back there as she was so angry for something that wasn't my fault at all. - Fri, 18 Jun 2004 1:42pm

Have any of guys ever been to The Ozone in Surrey when they did "Alternative Nights"? Same thing here at Evo, except everynight. Luv-A-Fair also was similar on "Metal Wednesday" with their $2 beers (cheap for over-hyped Vancouver).

All I can say, if a bar is charging $1 beers: First good on ya, Second, if you drink it, you get what you get.

Cheap booze is fun, but it has its costs.

Also, agree, that for all its short-comings, Evo is still the best Gong-show in town! - Fri, 18 Jun 2004 10:44pm

Actually Dirty, Ingraham pub (before they converted to the Cold Beer and Wine store) used to sell a lot more beer, and it took them 7 years to get their lines cleaned. So it beats me why people are getting violently ill from the draft your selling. But it sounds like the same thing you'll find drinking at places like The Legion. Yes, bacteria can form in your lines if your selling that much beer, I mean it's not like your selling beer 24/7 right? What about the time when the taps are not being used, for instance. - Sat, 19 Jun 2004 1:47pm

I guess this is another topic that just won't die. I have been going to EVO for years to drink their "watered down, bacteria ridden" filth and have never once been any more sick than I should be after drinking 8 doubles. Maybe all of you pussies should stay home and sip on club soda. But be sure the seal isn't broken or someone might tamper with it. - Sat, 19 Jun 2004 5:30pm

Is it just the beer making everyone sick? If not it could be the ice from there ice maker. Does it get cleaned regularly? I've cleaned them out at places I've worked before and they can get kinda nasty especially with unflitered water. I have drank there often but only rum and cokes and there have been a few times, more recently, when only after a few the next day i felt sick and I drink quite regularly and to excess! - Sun, 20 Jun 2004 11:58pm

glass washers are also big reason for illness, they are bacteria heaven, especially if the hot water temp is to low.
noone complains of getting sick at evo if they've been drinking bottles. ice machine or glasswasher are my bets. - Wed, 23 Jun 2004 9:39pm

Hey wow, it never occured to me that the ice maker/glass washer could be the cause, but it has to get REALLY bad for it to backfire like that (both pieces of machinery have to be torn down and cleaned every night, takes maybe 5 minutes). Only recently did I work in a environment where hot water was a luxury, everything was gross. - Wed, 23 Jun 2004 11:10pm

Oh my god...... you guys go buy the cheapest booze a bar can sell and still turn a profit and then you try to figure out why it makes you sick. Do the math here people it's not like your dropping six bucks on a bottle of import, your dropping a buck on draft. Or on the paint thinner that most companies call cheap hard liqour. Health inspectors are funny, I know Evo was fucked once cause the dishwasher wasnt up to par, cause we got hit on the same night, and so did a few other clubs in town. Do you really think Perry is going to let his club get shut down again over some stupid crap like that? Hey Phil, all of the clubs get visited by the health inspector on a regular basis, the Ingy cleaned their lines too, I was dating a bartender down there a few years ago. Used to spend a lot of time sitting there after hours... Actually it was great cause when we got trashed we'd just go upstairs and crash right there. - Thu, 24 Jun 2004 4:25am

Oops sorry, my bad, I had heard about the Ingy from a friend who bartends over at the Shark Club. But yeah, I went out last night to the 5th and had 4 Lighthouse IPAs, I feel awesome today. The real problem with Evo is people slipping shit into drinks...

Some goth chick did it to me last year, my friend thankfully caught her dragging me away down close to the intersection at govt. yelled at her then drug me back to my GF, i'm a big guy and hadn't had very much to drink, theres no question theres a trend of drugging drinks there, it's happened to more than a few people who go there...

I'm just glad that in my case I was spotted and drug back before that chick could cut me or whatever the hell it is those goth kids are doing these days...

Oh and the next morning, I had a hangover from hell *I never get hungover* and I diddn't even remember going to the bar in the first place!!

Word to the wise:

Don't go outside and smoke at bars and leave your drinks on the table! - Thu, 24 Jun 2004 2:24pm

I have heard the same kind of story at lots of bars. I know my ex was doped one night when I was bartending ten feet away, it can happen that fast. Granted we found out who it was real fast and I had a little talk with him alone in the back hallway before we barred him.... this shit happens at all bars nowadays, it's just Evo is the one dance club people in our crowd go to so it's the one we see it happening at. Funny thing, you dont see it happening nearly as often at live music venues as you do at dj clubs. Granted the amount of drugs at a dj driven dance club is going to be much higher so I'd say that question is fairly easily answered. People want to get high and dance, and your definitely gauranteed more slimy gino(no offence to gene-o..bwahahahah) motherfuckers at a dance bar than you are at a punk rock show. - Thu, 24 Jun 2004 2:32pm

go to a kid store and buy a sippy cup lid, they fit over sleeves and highball glasses. not totally drug proof but at least its harder for someone to drop it in your drink quickly. - Thu, 24 Jun 2004 5:24pm

Actually a buddy of mine was designing a straw for drinks that was white but if anything was added to the drink it would turn black, I think thats a brilliant idea for clubs everywhere personally. - Thu, 24 Jun 2004 7:26pm
