There are so many different styles of techno you have probably heard about one percent of whats out there. Granted yes I agree wholeheartedly the dancey crap you hear in most bars sucks ass in a huge way. House, hard house, acid house, progressive house, drum and bass, jungle, hip hop, trip hop, garage, deep house, and that is just a tiny portion of the types of electronic music. There's a big difference between what people think that "Techno" is..(shit like Kernkraft and Vengaboys, which is actually just shitty dance music)....as opposed to the other varieties of electronic music such as ambient, jungle, drum and bass, break beat etc. The list goes on and on. There's more sub-classifications of electronic music then there are for metal/punk combined. I don't know a lot about electronica and stuff like that though. Since it's all the same, it's all techno because it has synthesizers, and it all sucks, I guess you can add Pink Floyd, Yes and Rush to the list.
