| mike User Info... | so i'm at a tim hortons and I overhear some guy saying"it's tough out there if your in construction, not a lot of work goin on". then this woman goes "ya i'm just glad i'm working full time" I said "o you work construction what do you do?." She say's "I'm a flag person!" like she's fucken proud of it. I said "that's not a construction job, you don't build (ie construct) anything. "well i work around people who are doin construction" "ya well i noticed a hobo taking a piss on the grounds of the new wallmart I guess he's in construction too" and there the same thing if you think about it, a flag person is a just a homeless guy with a sign that says "slow down" instead of "spare change?" plus they get to wear hard-harts like a real construction worker. You ever heard of someone getting a head injury from being a flag person? no. maybe you need a head injury to become one, cuz your stupid enough to pay for a course to learn how to stand and hold a sign. seriously victoria, there's nothing wrong with getting paid to do nothing like a city worker or a flag person or one of the hairlips who work at the fucken bottle depot. but don't tell me your in fucking construction. now fuck off i got work to do - Tue, 24 Nov 2009 9:47am | ||

A lot of foremen for bigger crews, who are in charge of overseeing the entire operation, will get a whole project completed without actually building anything. Flag people are part of the construction crew, they make it easier for builders to build and landscapers to landscape. Therefore they're in construction. wait a minute, I just read "a flag person is a just a homeless guy with a sign that says "slow down" instead of "spare change?" Except that most flag people have homes- probably because they are flag people. So anyone who is near traffic when they're driving is at risk. | Mr. Hell User Info... | Flaggers in Victoria generally make between $16 and $22 an hour. I have Traffic Control as one of my many certifications for work in the municipality and it is very dangerous work...I have come close to being killed at least 5 times in the last two years due to idiot drivers. Was just using them as an example, to show that there are a lot of jobs (and not just foremen and flaggers) that are peripheral to actually hands-on construction but are equally important to getting the job done. And any job that requires traffic control would probably take a lot longer without it... Unless you think that generally drivers are smart enough to control themselves and work together in an organized fashion to minimize the risk to workers and keep things running smoothly. | Mr. Hell User Info... | Up until not so long ago, any monkey ass could flag traffic. I believe they passed the certification law as a cash grab. The process does not help weed out morons. When I did my certification a girl in my class caused a near head-on collision during the practical and they passed her. Some of the people I've worked with are ignorant and send traffic when signaled not to. Some have put down their sign and laid down on the grass at the side of the road. My point is flaggers are useful in controlling traffic to ensure safety and flow of cars, but when someone who does nothing but flag talks about being a construction worker, they are full of shit. - Thu, 26 Nov 2009 6:00pm | ||
