HEY!! - Recognize me???

Hahhaha

*Tip: Shocker*

As for the show,

I was really fucking sauced so I completely forget the 2nd band, first band seemed to be 2 dudes with a keyboard and some war pictures, not sure if they played any songs at all, 3rd band was sounding pretty good when I clued in, nice and heavy, and then of course Allfather, who again kicked ass, and got me more drunk with their epic horn they kept pouring pitchers in and passing around, I got so drunk I fell over 2x in the pit *that has never happened before* and noone even kicked me once!!!! WTF is wrong with you people???
I dont want help off the floor, I want BLOOD!!!!
Wuahahaha

Though after the show was pretty lame, my friends dissappeared *assholes* who were susposed to drive me home!!

Oh right about being booted, I guess someone did get kicked, heather fell in the pit, and stayed down for a while, I assume someone who shouldhave booted ME hit her, hope the battle wounds ain't too bad, looked like a pretty bad hit...

My head hurts, I got loaded as hell before I got there, and then blew 40 something bucks on beer whilst inside, not to mention the freebies I slammed!!! Fuck I still have a beer ticket even!!!

So all and all, it was a good night, though my one bitch is I diddn't get to recouperate my losses by pimping off my seedy friends!
I had pimp slapped them and everything!!

I guess wrecker's braid contest was where all the action was, damnit!

i didn't know you were going to pimp last night. lol. well i enjoyed the show last night, i had a kick ass time. the bands that played were really good but the people making the music in between bands with the pianos was pretty lame.
it was an half an hour of lameness i could have done with out. for my first victoria metal show since i moved here, i'm very impressed and i'm for sure going to more in the future to come.
hey Dd[]Sanger i introduced myself to you last night(i saw your pic in your profile and reconised you), i talked to you for like 5 mins and you told me how stoned you were like 10 times; it was pretty funny.
overall great show. lots of hot metalhead boys to look at. - Sat, 14 Feb 2004 12:40pm

Ahh yes, I only remember talking to you for like 5 seconds, diddn't know it was 5 minutes ahahah

And yes I was fucking high, when I bumped into you I had just came back from toking yet again outside and had slammed 1/2 another pitcher with a friend, so yep I was pretty fucked up.

I just remember you saying, do you post on live vic, I say yep, dod sanger, then barreled upfront as allfather was starting, but this will no doubt go to prove that my brain doesn't work properly the day after I get fucked up.

And you say you got to see a bunch of hot metal guys?

What I wanna know is where the hell were all the metal chicks???

The only ones I saw there were like, 6 friends and theyve been the only metal girls I've known for a while - Sat, 14 Feb 2004 1:22pm

it's alright that you were fucked up, i found it entertaining. you were telling me about how your roommates are from allfather. but meh. - Sat, 14 Feb 2004 3:55pm

God, I'm fucking tired.

One of the more interesting shows I've seen in a while, I (un???)fortunatley missed the first band, so no comment.

Inhuman, they were ok, though everything was way too fucking loud, my interal organs got one hell of a beating. Been hearing about these guys for a while now, I think I would like to check them out again minus the sound, but overall not my favorite.

Funerel Call were great!! I fucking loved them, it was like listening to a soundtrack almost, very dark, epic, mysterious stuff. Though they needed to kick it up a notch at the end of their set, we were falling asleep at a table, wishing we had blankets. And at times the music made me want to stab.

Allfather, jeesh, you get better everytime I see you. Great stage presence, the torches and drinking horns were great, nice to see nothing got broken. So worth my $8. Jasper's got his own cheering section now, you're a star in Canada now!

Missed this one. Don't have a car and buses suck. I think we played a show with Allfather once at little fernwood years ago. holy shit... i go to read a show review and all i see is fucking idiots making asses of themselves name-dropping people in the bands that played. who gives a shit if you were guestlisted or if you "know" someone in the band. 'dods anger', 'kittykat666' i'm sure if you are as "close" with these people as you claim to be, you'd just give them a call at home instead of desperately reaching out to them on a public message board. if this is how shallow the metal scene in victoria is, i'm glad i'm not part of it. - Sun, 15 Feb 2004 3:30pm

What's just as bad is someone pathetic coming on here trying to make themselves look "grim", "kvlt" and "troo" while putting down the people guilty of ruining a review thread with name dropping.
Missed the first band (as usual...never seem to be able to get to the bars until 10:45pm).
Inhuman was on as I arrived. The music was decent enough for black metal. Not being a huge fan of the genre aside from a few innovators, I can appreciate what they were going for. A tad generic and mundane. The female bassist was doing some decent finger picking, which I can definitely respect. Not really my bag overall though.
Funerary Call. Thundering processed drums, syth-orchestra and lots of ambience. Sleepy. 20 minutes too long. While it was great to have variety at a show, these guys were too far removed for me to get into it. However, they do their genre well.
Allfather were ripping, tight and heavy. Great sound! Great set! The addition of Jasper has really solidified Allfather's status as one of Canada's best war/black/odin (not sure what to call their style) metal bands. Paul doesn't seem to have any tendency toward getting tired while playing so fast. Always impressive! Of course, the bass work was a treat to watch as well. Excellent job guys! You are well on your way to getting much deserved recognition.
Overall, worth the $8 just for Allfather. - Sun, 15 Feb 2004 5:23pm

I thought Allfather were crushing as usual. The extra guitar in there really added to their power. The last song they did, the new one, was really good and shows that there are good things in the future from these guys.

Inhuman were pretty good too I thought. Good bass playing, good drumming and good guitar work. Good to see this genre of metal in Victoria for a change, although Im not a huge BM freak I like diversity. And they had a good presence up there.

Missed the first band, and the 3rd didnt do much for me but make me yawn and wonder why they werent on before the heavy stuff..

Pathetic guy, I think if Dodsanger wanted to 'reach out' to Allfather he would just go to their jamspot that they rent from him. Hey, my band jams next door but if I say so Im a namedropper right.. I think the point your missing is that Victoria has a relatively tight knit metal scene where alot of people dont really keep in touch until they see each other at gigs. So what if these people drop names, alot of them have known eachother for years. - Sun, 15 Feb 2004 6:12pm

This show kicked 10 kinds of ass....I really enjoyed the first band, reminded me a lot of post-apocalyptic industrial groups like Kreuzwig Ost (side project of Martic Schirenc [Pungent Stench/Hollenthon]) and Der Blutharsch. The third band was very similar to samples I've heard off Cold Meat Industries such as Coph Nia, very ambient powerful stuff.
Inhuman kicked ass. Totally Darkthrone-influenced. To be honest with you, I couldn't picture them shooting for a crazy technical style because that's not what a lot of the old school black metal called for, rather it was about atmosphere and grimness, and they definitely captured it. The chick bassist was actually really good, I look forward to doing a show with them in Vancouver some day...
Allfather, fuck, what else can I say. That show was easily the best show I've seen them pull off, and I don't think that's really because of their ability, rather, Lucky Bar has a sweet sound system and I could actually hear what they were fuckin' doing!! I saw them at the Cambie and Logan's before and it sucked because the sound was just shit. Seeing them at Dizzy's was interesting (again better sound) but the Lucky Bar show was wick.
Too all who enjoyed, come enjoy it again on the 28th!!!! See you there fuckers!!!!! - Sun, 15 Feb 2004 7:40pm

Ok about your name dropping thing, I had said I'm going to go up for allfather, theyre my new jam space roomies, which they are, and they put me on their list tonite, which they did, and I was heading off to the front to support them, which I did, I don't see how these things equate to name dropping, and for what purpose am I susposedly doing this anyhow I wonder?

And Logan's has a new soundboard now Akylore, was the old sound problem related to that? I know the music in general sounds way better now.

And yes there was blathering or some unrelated shit but noone was pitching in on any reviews so pointless blather happened, as it does constantly on here. - Sun, 15 Feb 2004 8:01pm

I don't really give a shit what people write, I have the right to click and hold the mouse button on the box-looking-thingly on the right-hand-side of the window and scroll past whatever I find is pointless, so whatever.
New sound board? Actually, I guess I should clarify my review comments if it sounded a bit anti-Logan's; after all, when we played there we actually had a very well laid-out sound, but again, we're a melodic band, not a brutal one, so we didn't turn our levels up very high as compared to a lot of other metal bands. Allfather is defintely more brutal than us, so their Logan's show was just so fucking loud I couldn't tell what the hell they were doing, same thing at the Cambie, I just couldn't fucking tell and whenever people asked me how Allfather was I couldn't in all honesty say because I didn't really know if I was hearing Allfather or not!!!! Maybe the levels were just too high, maybe the sound guy didn't know what he was doing, maybe the old equipment was shit, who knows, who cares, doesn't matter. All I know is that their performance at Lucky Bar was incredible and had an incredible sound.
If you want another Allfather taste then I'll see you fuckers again on Sat Feb 28th!!!! (James Bay Community Centre, 140 Oswego St., doors 6:30, show 7:30) Come out and support the scene!!!! - Sun, 15 Feb 2004 9:14pm

hey, drummer from Inhuman here. Wanted to thank Allfather and Victoria for having us out.
It was a great show.
I missed most of Griefer due to setting up in the back, but from what I saw and heard it was pretty cool. I liked the images displayed in the background, nice touch.
Funerary Call where pretty good aswell, made me want to kill things slowly and in the most painful way.
Allfather where great, they crushed. Tight and Brutal.
I found the sound to be a bit much there, too much bass for Allfather, each time the sound guy turned the guitars up, he would turn up the bass aswell, sort of defeated the purpose of "more guitars" untill it was so loud the true sound was lost.
Hope to play vic again in the furure. - Sun, 15 Feb 2004 10:23pm

When shows like this happens it makes me sad that the prodominant metal scene here is just a few years outta my range. DAMMIT!! So obviously I missed this show due to not being 19. But I can't wait until the 28th (ahem ahem Mitochondrion is playing ahem).

As far as "namedropping" goes. The metal scene here, I have noticed, really is all about bands putting on shows for people in other bands. Next time you're at a show look around and try to see who isn't in a band. And it's pretty common for people to communicate over this board. I mean for christ sake, half of the bands in this town formed over this message board. - Mon, 16 Feb 2004 7:38am

I guess I'll post a bit of a review. I'm not too good at reviews...

Unfortunately didn't get to see much of Griefer, heard many positive things about them so hopefully see them more in the future.

I appreciate Inhuman for what is was, but to be honest just didn't appeal to me. The set seemed really long and I couldn't really get into the music. Maybe at a different venue it would be different?

Funerary Call did a great job. Much anticipated... really liked that there were drums added to the music. I was so tired so I hope to see them at a time when I'm more awake and less in a comatose state ;)

Allfather has progressed alot since the last time I saw them live. Alot of new and unfamiliar songs so that was nice. Lots of energy and they sure spiced up the night.

Great show, really liked the variety of the bands. Different from the usual metal show! - Mon, 16 Feb 2004 5:10pm

That just proves you don't attend too meny local metal shows yourself now doesn't it?

Last show I set up, the bar was at capacity past closing.

BUT, I do agree with you on this support bit, for all of Allfather's set, myself and akylore were able to to hairwhip holding onto stagefront with barely a single crash from anyone.

Allfather was kicking ass, and rather than fly around people choose to back off and view, thats fine and everything, but wheres everyone from the ol' SYL pits you speak of?

I mean people who want to have a beer and watch and listen to the bands , thats cool , I do it alot but, it does suck when if you do want to dive in a pit for the headlining band and you can't , even when theres an acceptable crowd to do so..

I guess the only answer is Victoria needs more headbangers.

It seriously depends. I mean, when a pit is chaotic then it's actually a pit, but when one guy grabs another and attempts to throw him and run around like he's in some kind of WWF tag-team match then that's just lame. It's not even moshing anymore, it's just a couple of guys playing tough-guy. Don't get me wrong, when I get smashed into because that's where the 'chips' (people) fall, then it's fair game, but when a guy grabs me, looks right at me and then attempts to push me around then it's not moshing anymore...that shit was annoying me a bit but it's always 'standard procedure' for me to let loose with the windmill action up front...I dunno, some kind of metal-pledge-anthem thing with me, I dunno.... - Wed, 25 Feb 2004 1:01pm
