Evans User Info... | Everyone who uses http://www.livevictoria.com surely appreciates the services it provides and how it/they greatly enhance the ability of all of us to communicate and promote effectively. While browsing the gigs and profiles here, I have encountered quite a few artists and venues with forthcoming gigs listed, despite the fact that their profiles indicate they have not been updated in a long time. It is reasonable to assume that bands, musicians and venues post profiles here because they are interested in promoting their services to others. If the above is true, then it is also reasonable to assume that most of us are interested in creating a positive impression to anyone who we make aware of our services. With all of the above in mind, when a profile features a notice that it has not been updated in a long time (regardless of whether or not the profile is linked to upcoming event listings) what gets communicated is that the profile owner isn't well organized, doesn't take what they are doing very seriously, or hasn't checked their profile in a while. So how about we all check our profiles and update them (or remove them if they are no longer valid)? Doing so will make things a little better and a little easier for everyone who uses this valuable WebSite. Remember, just because this is a local site it doesn't mean that only locals are viewing the content; ask yourself if your current profile how you want the world to perceive you? | Sati User Info... | Thats a good idea and something we've considered (and have had in effect, actually) but our listings are more complicated than that. Auto-renewing won't offer specifics to those interested, where a band is available but seeking musicians, or on tour, for instance. Plus the profile info being incorrect or no longer relevant isn't of help to anyone since the vast majority of our users are skimming for info and don't make time to click links if something doesn't grab them. VFE is right - outdated info makes it look like the band isn't active, whatever their status might say. We know this because there are still bands in the system marked active from as far back as 2004 (which we'll be cleaning up soon, btw), outdated links and all. There are a whole lot of components of the sites that work in tandem, so if the fuel isn't there, i.e. data isn't updated, those sections won't work as effectively for the community or particular users who its of most use to. I think a lot of bands aren't aware of how many areas their stuff is featured in. I could blah blah all day about this, but it gets a little tedious. We made some changes and have sent out a few status update requests, and some really great bands have been updating, which is exciting to see (for me anyway). As many of the musicians who use http://www.livevictoria.com know, it can be frustrating and tedious to contact or attempt contacting venues and resources without knowing if your Email messages are being received. It can also be a colossal waste of time and energy - we'd all rather send messages and promo information, etc., to addresses we know are being monitored and will be responded to. So, if you have any direct contact with the proprietors of any of the resources listed below, please contact them and inform them that they need to update their profiles and begin taking advantage of one of the best FREE local promotional services available.
