good fun. large crowd. dane roberts.
what else?

hoochy girls. chris is leaving, i'm assuming the same for neils. shucks.
the great sound at the central brought the antics to the forefront, and the hoochy's sounded very decent.

the bloodwarmers. this was the tightest i've seen the bloodwarmers play. ever. the harmonies were on, the groove was fantastic.

those rapskallions. these cats know how to party. you can't stop moving with all those salsa, jazz, ska flavours.

the toasters. totally impressed. circular breathing horn and beer ushering throughout.

thanks to enigmatica, and especially mr. dane "return of judge dread" roberts. - Sun, 11 Jan 2004 5:45pm

Yeah it was just a great show overall. We are lucky to get acts like the toasters here. To the person who stole The Hoochys merch money you best be saving that for the dental work you'll need when I find you. - Mon, 12 Jan 2004 5:15am

merch money stolen eh????? well i second the teeth bashing idea, and lets take it to another level and slash their fucking guts. We'll see how the money helps them while they are holding their intestines in their hands. - Mon, 12 Jan 2004 7:56am

What a show!!!!!:):):)) Thank you Victoria and the rest of the Island for coming out to that amazing amazing sold out show with THE TOASTERS, the Hoochy Girls, Those Rapskallions and the Bloodwarmers @ the Central Bar & Grill last Saturday January 10th. All of the bands played their hearts out and the vibe of the room was awesome. Great to see all ages from young to old (65+)

Thanks to those that waited those tense minutes to get back into the venue at the start of the Toasters set. I'm happy things worked out for those that waited.

BIG UPS TO THE FOLLOWING:

Skankster's Paradise & Soundcheck on CFUV 101.9FM
Jesse Ladret for making such a kick ass poster (as usual)
Carol Andrews of the Central Bar & Grill
The Hoochy Girls for learning Big Seven and Pressure Drop
Again, The Bloodwarmers and Those Rapskallions for playing kick ass sets!

Those that came up from Seattle following the tour.

---Be certain the Toasters will be back to the Island soon.

REMEMBER THE KILTLIFTERS HAVE A NEW CD OUT RIGHT NOW!! Stay tuned for a show in Victoria soon. I didn't get a chance to mention that because the mic was turned off right after the Toasters finished.

bTW: The show in Vancouver blew me away too!

Thanks Tim for the sweet pic of Jack Ruby Jr. singing and skanking his heart out!

Peace - Tue, 13 Jan 2004 11:56am

I was super stoked about this show. I've listened to and loved the toasters since 1992. I arrive somewhat buzzed to find Lord Sledge and Bucket selling merch at the front door! This venue is super super cool, and is definately THE BEST place in town to see bands. Incredible sound, and great site lines from wherever you stand/sit. The HoochyGirls were ten fold better than i remember them...a real treat..and tight. The Bloodwarmers (i must admit my bias as i've known them for years) played the best i've ever seen them..and great new harmonies in the new stuff..i'd personally like to see them play a few more songs with a bit harder edge, but they sounded awesome! Those rapskallions were really good too...however not totally up my alley. The Toasters...what the hell can i say..anyone who loves ska ..(or even hates ska for that matter) and didn't go to this show really missed out. These guys are my all time fav's..and while every album they put out does have some dud's on it.(IMO) They really rock for the most part. They didn't dissapoint, and played all the best and more...and even in my "few beers too many" state i really was in seventh heaven watching them play. Big cheers to Dane for swinging this one..i hope it's true that they will be back before not too long. Looking forward to the next show at the Central Bar and Grill.... - Thu, 15 Jan 2004 12:07pm

Lots of fun. The crowd was great, the venue was great, and the bands were great.
Those Rapskallions were a bit mellow for being 3rd up, but that didn't really detract from the show overall.
The Hoochy Girls were a lot of fun as always, sucks that Crispy is leaving the band, though.
The Bloodwarmers were really tight and obviously very skilled musicians. They had a very cool stage presence & got the crowd skanking and 'sweating'
The Toasters did not disappoint. The little trumpet that the trumpet player had was super cute. Their sound was very refined and danceable.
Great show all in all. I hope to see more shows at Central soon. - Sun, 18 Jan 2004 2:26pm
