to quote YOU, "no offense"...
But please.
The eighties were banished forever to fill in the gaps between nights with good sales and lots of customers at local bars. Those who have ever seen such anomolies will agree that the music is crap, the crowd is normally a mindless majority dancing like idiots to music they don't know was shit in it's day, mostly because they were BORN in 1982 and were therefore spared from its' lack of feeling. Don't get me wrong, there was a lot of good stuff in the eighties, but it was not in the popular music movement, and could be classified in the same genre as brittney speared, nickleback, techno, and all disco. These guys sounded like poison, looked like cinderella, and put together an astonishingly twisted sister-like christmas video. Coming from someone who grew up in the eighties, PLEASE TELL ME YOU WERE JOKING. Nothing personal if you weren't, I DO know that good taste is hard to come by these days. - Tue, 6 Jan 2004 7:16am

I feel any band that catches my interest and hooks me is worth checking out. The band doesn't take itself seriously (you've seen the videos), it's just fun to listen to. Plus ya have Justin's voice (that's what made me take notice), yeah I know, they sound like a ton of other bands, but even the guitar solos are awesome. A lot of people might not like this band (yourself included) but jeez, lighten up already :) - Tue, 6 Jan 2004 7:48am

I'm with IoK#1. Never before have I seen/heard something so horridly glam rock 80's since..well..the 80's. Nothing compelling or even remotely unique about them. How the hell they've become a "pop" sensation is completely beyond me. - Tue, 6 Jan 2004 8:40am

The Darkness glorifies every thing that's ever been wrong and bad about rock music.

I don't know what's worse, the "music" and "lyrics" or The Darkness or the fact that they're so bad, it's considered cool to be into them.

We should be moving forward, not plummeting backwards into the abyss of "Unskinny Bop" and "Rocket".

No thanks Phil. This band is all yours.

Couldn't be bothered to even listen, but cheese glam METAL - that shit is fucking funny ass - Glam rock on the other hand... uuuuuugggggggghhhhh

Ever seen a whitesnake video???
So pathetic, at any given point and time you are just waiting for sigfreid and roy to pop out for a homo-guitar solo...

Rock you like a hurricane on the other hand, I can't help but laugh at that fucking shit, and even still compared to all the other 80's popular crap it's not that bad...

One thing about the band in question though:
Who the fuck's bright idea was it to make the name in little league font??

That is soo flaming... - Tue, 6 Jan 2004 9:50am

Wow, the negativity in here about this one band, I never knew :) I think people are taking rock too seriously, (note to self: I've gotta quit posting straight. :)

Actually since I posted that I've also been impressed by a few other albums as of late, namely:

The Distillers-Coral Fang
Zao-Legendary (not bad fer a Xtian Hardcore band)

Yeah, yeah Jason, I grew up in a redneck community, guess I can never get bored of listening to bad 80's metal/glam bands. :) - Tue, 6 Jan 2004 10:50am

The Distillers' new album sounds like they forgot they were a decent punk rock band and realized they actually wanted to sound like Hole and write some overly Nirvana-ish material. "Drain The Blood" and "Die On A Rope" are good songs, but the album as a whole just doesn't come close to Sing Sing Death House. - Tue, 6 Jan 2004 12:52pm

That's odd, I too thought that the new Distillers CD sounded like a punk rock version of Hole. - Tue, 6 Jan 2004 1:00pm

The new Distillers album is an entirly different band than the last Distillers album, the only member that is the same is Brodie. So it's not so surprising that they sound different - Tue, 6 Jan 2004 1:00pm

But what about all those decent Punk and New Wave acts that came out of the 80's?

BTW: I'm definately hunting down the Distillers last 2 CDs, I heard a sample of one of there earlier songs, wow totally hooked me :) - Tue, 6 Jan 2004 1:06pm

Hey Griphin,
IOK#1 quote: "Don't get me wrong, there was a lot of good stuff in the eighties, but it was not in the popular music movement"

I am assuming that's where the punk and metal of the 80's would come in. - Tue, 6 Jan 2004 2:38pm

yeah coral fang is a huge improvement since the last one (deathhouse) or something like that. I think alot of people just thought they were a joke when they started, just maybe getting all the media because of tim armstrong but coral fang destroyed any thought at all in my head about that - Tue, 6 Jan 2004 7:21pm

I heard Darkness on DNTO (CBC) a couple of months ago, and thought, holy shit, these guys are joking right. Guess they're not. I think they're nothin' more than a novelty act, but if this is gettin' hype in some kinda press somewhere that's a scaaaaary thought. I dig the chick in the Distillers voice... kinda reminds me of Kim Shattuck (the Muffs / Pandoras) in a very good way.... - Tue, 6 Jan 2004 8:32pm

I think the singer's crotch got caught in his fly with a voice pitch like that, kinda reminds me of vince neil or the dink from poison and shit like that, this may not seem to be the smartest post but it is reality - Wed, 7 Jan 2004 6:03am

I think the main reason I like Coral Fang is the guitar work in it. But songs like Dismantle Me sound a lot like a band I used to listen to a lot, Elastica. - Thu, 8 Jan 2004 10:33pm

I agree with Gryphin on this one. The Darkness - Permission to Land is one of the best albums of 2003. Somehow the songs grow on you more and more with each listen. Like crabs. If you don't think "Get Your Hands Off My Woman" is a great song, then I guess we's be different people, y'all. - Mon, 12 Jan 2004 11:20am

I never thought a band would make me want to form a tribute group of them before in my life until now. If any of you would be interested, please email me. I have a drummer and I play guitar. Griphin, can you sing like that? Anyone? We could be the first to bring Metal Genius to the island. - Mon, 12 Jan 2004 7:28pm

Naaa... I'd need to get a vocal coach to sing in three octaves. Apparently the lead singer of The Darkness used to do Karaoke, and he would usually sing Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen and other types of music like that. Even when I tried to sing in a band I noticed I'd kill my throat after 20 minutes.

BTW: The Darkness must be doing something right, cause their album went 4 times platinum in the UK!!! - Mon, 12 Jan 2004 8:13pm

Griph. It's very rare that you'll find someone in the 'pop' music industry with a 3 octave voice. Most vocalists hitting 3 octaves are classically trained in opera. The only 3 octave 'pop' vocalist I can think of off the top of my head is Kate Bush. Hitting a note in falsetto is also not considered to be hitting an octave (classically speaking of course), so no Freddy Mercury did not have a 3 octave voice. - Wed, 14 Jan 2004 6:29am

Ah there's where I'm getting confused, I was thinking about singers in general (Kur"d"t Cobain, Rob Halford and that dude from Iron Maiden (sigh, mind went blank)).

RE: Nuvowavo - Interesting band ya got there, and there's a ton of ideas which can be incorporated, but where's all the decent Devo tunes (I checked the setlist). You ever thought about taking, say, a Dead Kennedies song and adding a newwave flair to it (sorta like what Dread Zeppelin did with Led Zeppelin/Elvis/Reggae)?!? - Wed, 14 Jan 2004 9:13am
