What Did You Say? I'm Sorry, My Eyes Are On Fire... User Info... | I didn't live in this town when I was 14 and got into Pantera. Thanks for dissing the band that got me into metal though, that was necessary. I would never go and say that about some band someone liked. Whatever, that's what I get for posting anything here. I'm done. - Wed, 12 Mar 2008 1:02pm

Gyfuwyn User Info... | Jimi Hendrix Experience was the first metal band. It wasn't called metal, but when you get down to basics that's what it was. Iron Butterfly, Deep Purple, Led Zepplin, Mountain, Steppenwolf, MC5, Alice Cooper, there's probably more that I am missing, were all active and evolving around that time (late 60's)too. It was a sort of spontaneous cumbustion! - Sat, 15 Mar 2008 7:53pm

Neon:Pistol:Bang User Info... | "SATAN INVENTED METAL" Exactly. It was our very own lord satan. I mean, groundbreaking bands like Korn, Pantera, Avenged Sevenfold and the great Trivium are all sort of godfathers of metal aren't they? Because like, they are what real metal is all about, right? (*ugh*) - Tue, 18 Mar 2008 4:12pm
{UTA} Mike User Info... | hard call.. more than one band Id say.. some not mentioned that could be partially to blame.. 1967 - Budgie 1968 - Iron Butterfly and dont forget. alot of the early speed metal pioneers (Slayer, Megadeth etc) were heavily influenced by punk ala GBH, The Germs, Black Flag etc - Tue, 18 Mar 2008 4:20pm

sealion User Info... | worth listening to early uriah heap's long chunk on the song Gypsy after the singer shuts up. Its a killdozer powerhouse and at that time deep purple were still doing song format. Uriah heep just leant into the rift and hammered it into the ground repetitively in a very cool way. They never got to Deep Purple's status but that first lp with the human face on the centipeded in silver and purple and the whole look of the gatefold was not like anything anyone had seen before. Its powerchord time.. heck of a great organ sound as well - Fri, 9 May 2008 9:49pm Edited: Fri, 9 May 2008 9:58pm

Curmudgeon Rocker User Info... | Anyone ever heard "Lark's Tongues in Aspic" Part 1, about one minute into the track? The passage lasts for about two minutes, then veers into prog stuff. There is absolutely NOTHING heavier from '73 than those two minutes. Those two minutes WILL FUCKING KILL YOU. - Sun, 11 May 2008 7:58am
