After several months of extensive listening, I've come to the conclusion that the melodic death metal genre came into existence largely so that these guys could one day come along and make every other band ever to play it look completely fucking medicore.

Okay, maybe that's a BIT of an overstatement, but this is still probably the best melodeath album ever released, not to mention among the most seamless combinations of stunningly technical music with ridiculously catchy, immediately likeable melodies. Their new album didn't quite live up to it, but these guys are still hands down one of the most impressive bands in the metal world right now. - Thu, 8 Mar 2007 11:57pm

ACOG is one of the best examples of the genre. The new album is not quite as good but still worthy. - Sat, 10 Mar 2007 12:39pm Edited: Sat, 10 Mar 2007 12:39pm
