Platoon User Info... | Havoc's Rise of the Black Dawn is a grim example of passionate underground Black Metal. The atmosphere on the CD is reminiscent of a live show held within an evil mountaintop cave. The production on the album helps to create a refreshing, underground sound. The lead singer and guitarist, Transgressor, uses a vocal style that combines both a lower growl and a mid range scream. The vocals are very effective and convincing in that they sound evil, angered, atmospheric, and energetic. The mid range of the vocals fits well within the mid paced grooves and heavy tuning on the record. The rhythms on this album are crushingly heavy. The heavy guitar tones emanating from this disc are tuned down low and emphasize the moments of bludgeoning doom laden riffs that are scattered about. Coupled with the crushingly heavy doom riffs are the characteristic lightning bolt Black Metal riffs that sear the listener’s ears. The lyrical themes of misanthropy and apocalypse include the telling of 'Salmu Azag', which is ‘the great black serpent’ or ‘dragon’ translated from Ancient Sumerian. Misanthropic visions of the Apocalypse, spurred on by Luciferian ideals, dominate the lyrical themes in songs such as the title track 'Rise of The Black Dawn', and tracks such as 'Cold Hate Transgression', and 'Kingdom of Lies'. The overall focus of the lyrics is the misanthropic, metaphorical, 'Rise of the Black Dawn' which coincides with the destruction of humankind. Songs to sacrifice virgins to include 'I am the Rogue', 'Salmu Azag', 'Involuntary Hollow Embodiment' and ‘Cold Hate Transgression’ as they will surely engage the listener. There is no weak song on the mid paced 6 song demo and fans of underground Black Metal should take note of this album. Side projects from Singer/Guitarist Transgressor include his solo project Miasma, and a joint effort between Transgressor and Bassist The Dead Lakes called Eclipse. Both projects are Black Metal with a dissonant, slow to mid paced, suicidal style.
