The One After Two User Info... | I don't get it. Could one of you guys smarter than me explain it please. There are a couple tracks that I am into, but I don't believe the hype. Thank you. http://www.dillingerescapeplan.com/ - Mon, 13 Sep 2004 8:31pm
Nik Olaz User Info... | i think the dillinger boys wanted you to come away thinkin that. this band practically invented this whole metal/hardcore/jazz/spazz genre and they can pretty much do whatever they want with it. i actually enjoy the more "song" songs, because they are mixed with some less normal stuff, its just a very varied album... ...with some obvious nods to mike patton and nin - Mon, 13 Sep 2004 11:22pm
The One After Two User Info... | yes, I need to give it some more listen time me thinks. - Tue, 14 Sep 2004 12:24am
KK Downingsyndrome User Info... | I've always been a huge DEP fan since Under the Running Board, so my opinion is that these boys can do no wrong. The second-to-last song, I hate. All the rest I can't get enough of. Nice progression of their vastly immitated style. - Tue, 14 Sep 2004 2:51pm
hesher User Info... | this band practically invented this whole metal/hardcore/jazz/spazz genre I disagree. They are good. But me and my friends were playin metal/hardcore/jazz/spazz long before we ever heard dillinger. Maybe they started it for you. Personally I cant listen to this band for more than a song or two. It just loses me and turns into background music. - Tue, 14 Sep 2004 3:59pm
Nik Olaz User Info... | what i meant by that statement was the whole bringing fourth of it into more of a "phenominion" of sorts, there are so many dillinger clones out there now, trying to out-tech each other like that. it just so happens alot of them have hardons for dep. - Tue, 14 Sep 2004 7:53pm
ScottL User Info... | The second to last song was kinda wierd. Best song is probably song 8 though. Song 10 might be explained by the fact that for this album they made it their goal to write some more simple melodic songs. That said, as an article says, it was MORE difficult to write a simple melodic song than to go crazy and all out, maybe song 10 is their opus of simplicity? Well, they managed to make a wicked album incorporating technical and melodic aspects. - Thu, 16 Sep 2004 7:28pm
alain User Info... | Holy god, lovely album. I think song 10 is hilarious: I found Dillinger a bit of a shock when I first heard them, I know there are some bands out there like Dillinger, but it's not what I'm used to hearing, so yeah, Dillinger was out of the ordinary, and then song 10 comes along, and then it just throws me more because it's unusual for them and usual for others... I thought it was pretty funny, but I don't like that song nearly as much as the others, but damn lovely album - Fri, 17 Sep 2004 12:09am
KK Downingsyndrome User Info... | I would say that Human Remains had a big influence on Jazz/Metalcore of this style, but good luck finding their album. I finally found "Using Sickness as a Hero" after years of searching. - Fri, 17 Sep 2004 11:23am
hesher User Info... | I have a human remains album i cant remember the name but its badass. Dave Witte drums on it and its killer. There is alot more to this shit than fuckin dep. gee whiz. - Fri, 17 Sep 2004 3:46pm
The One After Two User Info... | I gave it another go. I found the disc very abrasive but started to enjoy some aspects. Track 5, "Phone Home," I think its called is very haunting! Track 10 was a very odd track. I hear a lot of NIN on there too... but maybe I find any band that uses those computer type thingies sounds like NIN... - Sat, 18 Sep 2004 6:01pm
Zippgunn User Info... | After a quick run through I think this album shows real growth, something that a lot of "metal" bands don't seem capable of. I'll admit that I'm a fan of this style of metal (Coalesce, Burnt By the Sun, Locust etc.) and I applaude this band's attempt to create more song-like works. There is a lot more melody and more actual "singing". Of course there is the by now obligatory short "ambient" song and the package includes the most infuriating booklet in the history of the Digipack (took me 10 minutes to get it back together right) with minute white print in light green on an endless accordion card. One caveat for old farts like me who have no time for the antics of modern metal bands on stage is the DVD which featues a whole lot of bad poo and fart jokes (in the "Making of Miss Machine" video)and the idiotic sequence during the first song where the band sets the whole stage on fire (wow, that's never been done before). Also the audio on all the live stuff is pathetic, reducing what is visceral and powerful on the album proper to a bunch of chaotic noise accompanied by a lot of posturing and , I'll admit it, a pretty decent light show. But c'mon, is metal really about light shows? I'm going to file the DVD and play the album again. Loud. - Mon, 20 Sep 2004 12:26pm
