The One After Two User Info... | My record collection is far too heavy on new music and shitty indie bands and I want to fill it with some great classics. I was thinking of flipping through the discs at Ditch and want to get a smattering of records from some bands that I am ignorant of. Any albums that you would or not recommend from some of the following: Fugazi Minor Threat Ignition Samiam Rites of Spring The Promise Ring Black Flag Misfits Dead Kennedys and even some Sleater Kinney could be fun. any other classics you wouldn't live without??? Thank you for taking the time to post. - Mon, 9 Aug 2004 11:05pm
Trailer Park Boy Julian User Info... | I'd highly recommend the following: Fugazi: "13 Songs" rules and is my fave of theirs (I think it's both "7 Songs" and "Margin Walker" combined); "In On The Kill Taker" and "Repeater" are pretty darn good too; don't like their more recent stuff up to including "Red Medicine" as much.... Minor Threat: Get the "Complete Discography" and you'll have pretty much all of their stuff on one disc. This is ESSENTIAL!!! Black Flag: "Damaged" and "The First Four Years" represent their earlier rawer sound well and "My War" represents their later years well. Or you get their singles compilation "Wasted... Again" to get a representitive sampling of all their eras. Misfits: Pretty much can't go wrong with ANY of their releases with the original lineup. I LOOOOOOOVE both "Walk Among Us" and "Misfits". Dead Kennedys: My faves are "Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables" and "Frankenchrist". Get "Give Me Convenience or Give Me Death" if you want a collection of their singles etc.... - Tue, 10 Aug 2004 10:31pm

Adrenaline Animal User Info... | As far as Samiam goes, the two best are probably either "Clumsy" or "you're freaking me out" Some other cool older stuff Dag Nasty "any album" Field day "friction" or "big wheels" Jawbreaker "every album kicks ass" Pegboy "Strong reaction" Seaweed J Church - Thu, 12 Aug 2004 4:20pm
Zippgunn User Info... | Sounds like you're looking for classic "punk" stuff, mostly from the USA so here's my 2 cents: Black Flag- Damaged. No one else comes close to the intensity of this album despite it's shitty sound. Flipper- Album. The sound of things falling apart non-stop. Get Sex Bomb baby for the singles too Fear- The Record. The best dumb LA punk album, just ask Schwamm. Great sound too. Germs-GI. Another great, slightly less dumb LA album in great sound (courtesy Joan Jett!) Dead Kennedys- Plastic Surgery Disasters. My favorite DK's LP; they are all pretty good with In God We Trust Inc. being the most savage and hardcore (the CD I bought eons ago had both of these on it) MDC- Millions of Dead Cops CD. Almost too much of a good thing comprising the first LP and a bunch of terrific singles. One of the first to bridge punk and metal. Meat Puppets- 1st. The thrashiest punk album ever made; makes the Neos sound like the Mahavishnu Orchestra. They reportedly recorded the whole thing high on acid and it sounds like it. Minor Threat- Out of Step. I'm not as big on MT as most people but this EP was their best and since their entire output is available on one CD how can you go wrong. I like Fugazi too but got sick of them fast. Really Red- Teaching You the Fear. The best of many great Texas punk LP's this one is tough to find but worth the search. Shockabilly- Vietnam/Heaven. Not really a punk band (but then not really categorisable at all) this CD has two of the best LP's I've ever heard on it despite the awful bass heavy remix by "producer" (and bassist) Kramer. Find the LP's if you can, especially Vietnam which comes with a gigantic tour diary by Eugene Chadbourne that is hysterical (and both have better sound). Highest recommendation. Discharge- Hear Nothing, See Nothing, Say Nothing. The best of the British crust-punk speed metal/hardcore bands, this LP will clear most rooms in seconds. Ultra heavy with great lyrics. I'm sure I'll think of more but I'm pretty sure all of these would turn your crank. - Fri, 20 Aug 2004 11:13am
