Shows at Steamers User Info... | Steamers Pub & Vancouver Island Brewery PRESENT... "A SKA-TASTIC SHOWCASE featuring MAD BOMBER SOCIETY + From Quebec The Gamblers + local gurus KING BONG Thursday, October 9/ 2003 (9pm) STEAMERS PUB, 570 Yates Street, Victoria, Canada. Age 18+/ General Admission TICKETS: $10 in advance at Lyles place & Vancouver Island Brewery. *************** Mad Bomber Society is a seven-piece band from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, playing heavy, danceable ska influenced by the traditional instrumental sound of the Skatalites and the uncompromising attitude of the British 2-Tone movement. Sharing little in common with the poppy style of ska of the mid-90's, Mad Bomber Society's lineage is more directly traceable to the great 80's Canadian ska pioneers King Apparatus and Roots Roundup. The lineup features a three-piece horn section, a wild Hammond-style organ, and a rocksteady rhythm section. Musical influence stands out of the jazz, rock, and pop styles of the 50's and 60's, along with shots of punk, surf, and rockabilly. Mad Bomber Society has been touring Canada since 1996 and has built a reputation as a premier live act, successfully headlining festivals, packing clubs, and taking major roles in University and College level campus events. ************ The Gamblers: Although the coming together of The Gamblers was a lengthy process, with various band names and members in and out of rotation, they are now a solid 8 piece ska/punk band from Trois'Rivires, Qubec who will be releasing their first full length, "Have You Ever Thought" with STOMP Records in April 2003. The diverse musical influences constitute a definitive characteristic of the band's particular sound. As well as the ska, there are elements of genres like punk, reggae, indie rock, jazz, metal, swing and alternative that has had a decisive impact on the Gamblers' musical style. On top of this eclectic style, The Gamblers have a commitment to delivering these songs live with a ton of energy and emotion. The Gamblers had the chance to perform with such acts as The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Goldfinger, The Planet Smashers, Subb, Flashlight Brown, Big D and the Kids Table, Mustard Plug, The Gadjits, King Django, The Peacocks, Guttermouth, The Kingpins, Vnus 3, Vulgaires Machins, General Rudie, Spleen!?, Alaska, The Cartel, Life-Styles, The Couch Addiction and many others. Also, the band had been on many compilations as well as putting out their first EP album which is now sold out. And this is just the beginning; the future will be nothing but brilliant for this energetic and innovative ska band. ************* MAD BOMBER SOCIETYS web site- http://www.madbombersociety.com/ THE GAMBLERS' web site - http://www.thegamblersonline.com/ KING BONGs web site http://kingbong.ca/ Information: MAD BOMBER SOCIETY: [email protected] Tel.
