You heard it folks -- Kohurshun will be playing their last show before Nikolas goes off to Japan, so you're not going to want to miss this one, because it may be their last.

Smoking Rockets from Cowichan will be opening the show, and Year of the Rat (http://yearoftheratmusic.com) will be second on the docket, celebrating getting onto the Fox Seeds 2010 Top 50, and possibly the Top 20 as well (find out on Friday!). We may also have some advance copies of our debut EP "The Code" up for grabs, so buy some tickets and come on out.

$7 advance -- pop me an email if you want some!

Despite my better judgement I dragged my lazy self down to EVO on a thursday. When I got there @ 930, there was one other person there depsite the show starting @ 930 like the ad said. Anyways, people quickly showed up and got the night started around 10'ish.

The first band: Smoking Rockets were alright, I much preferred the songs that the guitar player was singing. Not so much for the singing but the songs were just better. When they played the slower groovier stuff they sounded more comfortable then the heavier more punky stuff.
IMO, they should do that style more and stay away from the faster stuff but what do I know. SHOTS! SHOTS! and more SHOTS!

The Second band: Year of the Rat, been wanting to see these guys for awhile (mostly from all the live vic posts). Me and a couple buds were very impressed with the singer by his range, phrasing, and ability to hold the crowd. The lead guitar player looked like he didn't want to be up there. He was staring at his feet for 90% of the night, but his playing was pretty good. The drummer has been around the block, it seems, as he looked like he was having fun. The bass player sounded great but I was in the back and actually didn't see him at all from behind those brace walls. These guys are either just finishing up their CD or they are finished. Either way I'll be getting a copy as I'd like to hear more of the singer.

Kohurshun: I left early because I had to be up a 6. Sorry Nick, i'll see you Japan. BTW, i'm stealing your brother to start a band..woohoo!

Stay cool but don't freeze. Cheers, Lucius - Fri, 18 Jun 2010 9:00am
