_Griphin_ User Info... | (Cross-posted from http://www.rcmpsite.com) A Night at The Tango Remember the Club Tango when it first started above the Oak Bay Theatre and then moved downtown to 1037 View St upstairs with the Purple Onion downstairs. Remember seeing all those great local bands and musicians honing their craft before your eyes. Come join us Good Friday on the Easter weekend, April 9th at Legends in the Strathcona Hotel as the Royal City Music Project pays tribute to an important piece of our musical past. The first band confirmed is "Invasion" consisting of an all-star lineup from bands like Blues X Five, Night Hawk, Sugar Cane, Blues Union, Kitsch, Beat the Boulders, Showdown, Wimpenny, Sling Shot and Riff-Raff. The second band confirmed is "Ed Wright and Morning Star 04" with members from Blues X Five, Sleepy John, Lost Souls & Morning Star. The third band is "Rukus" who has players from The Mixed Emotions, The Black Cats, The Regents and Bobby Faulds & The Strangers. The fourth band is "Freefall" featuring guitarist Tim Zurowski of The City Blues Band, Buckeye, and Sugar Cane. There will be displays of memorabilia, music from the past, guest speakers with awesome video presentations, the reproduction of a 60's light show {wow, the colors!!! :} and a giant reunion of friends and band mates from the 60s and 70s. Tickets are $12 at the front desk of The Strathcona Hotel for what promises to be an unforgettable evening of music and memories. Also coming in 2004, The Brown Jug-Reggies Reunion and as mentioned, The Victoria Rock & Roll, Music Hall of Fame. --- I know I'll be going, good to run into a bit of Victoria's Musical past, gonna rock! - Sun, 28 Mar 2004 9:29pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | It's gonna rock (yeah I know, cheesy to get the post at the top again, but your gonna miss out not attending this gig) - Tue, 30 Mar 2004 11:06pm
lonemonk User Info... | It was filled to capacity. (~500 peeps) I've worked with some of the musicians from that time (getting some old recordings cleaned up, etc). Of course, my dad raised me on mouldie oldies, so it was a blast. Better than almost anything you'll normally see at legends (Except when I saw Burning Spear there) Glenn Parfitt is sure doing a good service to the bands of the 60's and 70's in this town. I hear there may be another in May at what used to be Harpos. I'll likely check that one out as well. Once some of the copyright issues get sorted out, I understand Glenn might be selling the DVD he had produced for the ocassion. I'll be there to buy one. You listenin' Glenn? Did you end up going Griphin? - Sat, 10 Apr 2004 11:55pm
