Message Board > Up n' Coming! (aka Shameless Promotion) > MORE FUCKING MAY METAL!! May 7th@ Lucky BAr, Meatlocker Seven, Cyanotic, Soulscar |
ML7Mike User Info... | Jumpin on the wagon of way too early show postings here but: May 7th, its another metal show in May with Meatlocker Seven, and Vancouver's Cyanotic and Soulscar. Meatlocker Seven have finally taught most of the old stuff to the new drummer, and will be concentrating on all new material until this show, so expect new songs, none of this stuff we wrote 3-4 years ago and took years to get out! Cyanotic are a heavy thrash based band who were previously known as G.R.A.V.E.L. One of the bigger metal bands out of Vancouver that arent part of the extreme metal scene, they are kicking off their Canadian tour in Victoria. From BWBK Magazine: "Contributing to what eventually may be known as the Vancouver sound, Cyanotic join the line behind Devin Townsend/Strapping Young Lad and Andrew Staehling/Soulscar. Explosive rage turns into melodic calm with plenty of crunch and rumble all around. Strength in songwriting and dynamic is plain as day. The salient variance amongst the 14 songs is further proof of obvious talent and tenacity. Not at all surprising that Move and Waiting For A Martyr are being played during Xtra Loud on 104.9 XFM in British Columbia. Untold effort has been put into this album, not to mention a joyous poke at 80s metal in Whiskey Corvette and a hilarious lounge mockery Input 3.1...8/10" http://www.cyanotic.com Soulscar are a Galy Records band, melodic death metal, very Swedish sounding with lots of leads and technical riffing. Lots of great reviews out there of this up and coming band, or check out their website http://www.soulscar.com for audio. From Unrestrained! Mag: SOULSCAR - Character Assassination (Independent) Man, it has been a long time coming, but the long wait has been worth it. Over the last couple of years I have been lucky to have been in contact with Vancouver thrash/death/heavy metal act Soulscar and watched them grow from their infant demo stages to full-length debut release. Their album, 'Character Assassination' is nothing short of brilliant! Awesome production, amazing arrangements and a really solid flow of ideas makes this album shine like very few indie albums have over the years. Songs like "The Voyeur" and "Living Nightmare" add some variety and class to their aggressive drive, while songs like the destructive "Relentless," "Fatalist Mantra" and the intense title track showcase the band's nod to old school metal like Megadeth, Testament and Carcass. If you like your music fast, tight and technical, Soulscar is your poison. Easily one of the best bands - if not the best band - that Canada has to offer right now. This band is going places whether a label signs them now or a year from now! A. Bromley -9- - Mon, 1 Mar 2004 2:47pm

ML7Mike User Info... | Adrian Bromley sure pumps Soulscar!! Here's the review he gave Meatlocker Seven a few months ago in Unrestrained! Mag: (toot!) "I dont know what is in the water in British Columbia, but yet another band ( following the metallic charge of Soulscar ) emerges with a furious metallic fist in the air. That band is Meatlocker Seven, a well-oiled death metal machine that manages to fuse together some melodies, samples and atmosphere with great results. From opener "Isolate" through memorable numbers like "Systemic", "Tribunal" and the godly ( and reworked old number ) "Ground Level Sleep" Meatlocker Seven never let up, only shifting gears to let the creative juices seep in and add some substance to the death metal flow. Credit must be given to singer Bram Harvey, who brings a lot of creativity to his vocal styles on "The Biological Mechanism Of Hate" CD, whereas the same approach for each song might have left some numbers weaker or uninspired. Meatlocker Seven should be proud of their ability to deliver the intensity while also keeping it interesting. One of the top 5 indie bands in Canada right now for sure." = Adrian Bromley = 8.5 - Thu, 4 Mar 2004 8:08pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | Of course Adrian uses an ancient, obscure number system for his ratings. 8.5 actually equals 10 in that system. - Fri, 5 Mar 2004 2:20pm
RSBF User Info... | i heard it actually equals an 11 - no lie. - Fri, 5 Mar 2004 8:47pm
