| VICTORIA BC SKA SOCIETY User Info... |  Victoria BC Ska Society is proud to announce that La Severa Matacera from Bogotá, Colombia will make their highly anticipated return to Canada this November 20th – 28th at various venues around British Colombia. This tour comes on the heels of their brand new CD release titled V.I.S.A that has been warmly received in their own country and other countries throughout Latin America and the United States. V.I.S.A features a variety of songs both fun and political in nature blending danceable genres of ska, reggae, Kumbia, funk and jazz. But also the album provides songs with an edge that includes touches of rock and punk. La Severa Matacera was born in Bogotá Colombia at the end of 1995 with the idea of forming a band that could mix all the influences of its members. The fusion of Ska, Reggae, Funk, Jazz and traditional music with a very hard rock feeling brings out the unique touch that La Severa Matacera gives to its music, showing that the roots of this genres are the same so that they match perfectly. A very harmonious brass ensemble joined by a rhythm base made of powerful bass, guitar and drums grooving together with hot percussion is the key. Personal experiences of all the members of the band and reflection about the daily happening in a chaotic world gives the band a space to understand it and thus spread a message full of positive energy, tolerance and most of all respect for the basic human rights such as life and freedom. La Severa Matacera have been performing in Colombia and other parts of Latin America, Canada and the US since 1997. They have played major festivals and venues throughout the world including appearances at the House of Blues in San Francisco, Victoria’s Annual Ska Festival, International Ska Festival in Mexico, and several appearances on one of Latin America’s largest festivals Rock al Parque. Artists such as Manu Chao, The Skatalites, The Aggrolites, Salon Victoria, Inspector and Junior Reid have all played alongside La Severa Matacera. Colombian and Canadian audiences alike will be treated to a musical experience like no other. Not only will concert goers get to experience unforgettable La Severa Matacera concerts in their own communities, but they will also get to see some of the best ska, reggae and hip hop acts BC has to offer on select dates. The band will play the following towns and cities November 20th – 28th, 2009.
