I agree - not sure if XTC, The Cars, etc, etc, exactly qualifies as disco though - Mon, 19 Jan 2004 10:34am

Blondie did some disco-ey songs but we do One Way Or Another which I don`t consider disco, we also do some Ramones and The Monks, Talk Talk, The Clash, The Vapours, Violent Femmes, etc., I don`t know if those bands are considered disco or not. We certainly don`t do any K.C and the Sunshine Band or Kool And The Gang. - Mon, 19 Jan 2004 10:56am

Naaaww...just funning with ya. Any that lived through that scene the first time may remember certain contingnets of the scene leveling accusatory fingers at these "new wave" artists for not only having catchy pop ditty's but for producing material that was also very danceable. The "harder" crowd felt them to be far to "mersh" (commercial) and sell-outs. Whatever.
Blondie were actually VERY preturbed to have had a hit that was SO popular in the disco's, right miffed in fact.
It's all relative of course....Wonder if I still have all those Debbie Harry posters stashed some place....>shudder.< Split Enz at the Royal was my first gig. Some dude offered me a hit off his joint; scared the hell outta my 13 yo brain. - Mon, 19 Jan 2004 1:57pm

probably dating myself but Neil Young (Harvest tour - 1971) was my first show and I kept complaining to my dad that the perfume the lady in front was wearing was making it hard to breathe. I usually don't take anything too seriously but a comment about disco is different! Never have I detested a musical form so much (I can even find it in my heart to enjoy polka) - Tue, 20 Jan 2004 5:56pm

Only two kinds of music; good +bad. If it makes yer booty shake then it's all good. Lotta "new wave" IS disco, sorry. Check out the TK records stuff for some damn fine soul/funk...most of it considered disco at the time. Terrific compilation on Rhino I believe.
oh yeah...never take yourself seriously, a cardinal sin. But you know that Mr.Nehkbone.

Mr.Nehkbone, I like that! I was a huge Tower Of Power fan, which could be considered disco-like. Rap is what I consider on the "bad" side of music. - Wed, 21 Jan 2004 12:18pm

Well again I would point out that in all genre's exists really only "good" music and "bad." Matters not how much theory a jaxx-fusion player can spurt or how base and crass a rap artist may seem; if you smile, find yer booty twitching or generally feel the better for having connected with th music then I'd consider it "good." Same discussion in that Mike Stern thread from a ways back. This is why pop is as important as leftist art-core punk (or whatever.) - Wed, 21 Jan 2004 5:27pm

I am not an complete disco hater - Saturday Night Fever is an amazing movie and soundtrack - Songs in the Key of Life by Stevie Wonder is an amazing record (maybe not totally disco but a very cool album - some wicked playing on it) - it is just that the disco that sucked - - tended to really really sucked- that's all! - Wed, 21 Jan 2004 7:05pm

Back in the 80`s i was camping in the interior and was listening to Tom Scott and The L.A. Express and some hillbilly came by and said," What`s that disco shit you`re listening to?" Lucky I didn`t play any Tower Of Power or Rubicon or I`d have takin` a whuppin`. Anyways ,back to the original thread, we`re at Lucky`s on Saturday night and I`m dyeing my hair blue and we be pogo-ing during Politics Of Dancing! - Thu, 22 Jan 2004 2:52pm
