DK User Info... | I did not go to this show but what I heard was it didn't start until 10:30 and then was shut down by the cops because of noise complaints. It's pretty predictable that after 11 at a show in a residential area, the cops will show up because some housewife is complaining. It's a pain in the ass but it should have been expected. - Sun, 7 Dec 2003 6:08pm

Zippgunn User Info... | The show had to start at 10:00 because the Spiral Cafe next door was having a musical of its own from 8:00 till 10:00. Still with the ever increasing gentrification of the building it seems that loud shows at the 50/50 might not be able to happen any more. - Sun, 7 Dec 2003 9:38pm
lonemonk User Info... | A decent sized crowd attended for a place that size, and especially with a bunch of other shows taking place the same night. Two female cops did a sweep right after our set was over and pretty much set the tone for what was to come later. By roughly 11:30, and only two songs into the Captains of Industry set, they were back in pretty serious numbers considering what was actually happening. I counted no less than 8 officers; They were nice enough in their approach but the result turned out to be the same. Everyone involved was pretty fuckin' disappointed. Everyone left peacefully in the end, which is important because anyone wishing small gigs to have any hope of survival city-wide had better make sure these things don't require escalation. The nature of that building makes it pretty tough to please anyone who lives upstairs; I suppose no matter who you book downstairs, the 10 o'clock start time dictated by the coffeeshop is already putting live shows in jeopardy there. People upstairs *might* not mind 8-11 shows as much, as long as thats all they were. (I haven't asked them, I'm only speculating of course) I guess 50-50 will have to only book the un-plugged crowd from now on. All sorts of things overshadowed the event, but I better say now that I had fun playing our set, and a variety of people seemed to enjoy themselves up until the law appeared. Thanks for everyone coming to support what would have been a good night of music.. - Sun, 7 Dec 2003 9:47pm
