anna User Info... | This was the best all ages show I've been to for the couple of years. An amazing line up of spoken word which drilled capitalism. Max Sloan performed with a double bass and percussion duo which rocked house, especially the last piece 'Canadian Living' attacking the status quo death culture in which we live. Ron Sakolsky was really inspiring and powerful. Lisa B blew people's mind's with her long memorized rants attacking injustice and indifference. This line up of poets proved that the spoken word is just as powerful as the 100 watt full stack amplifiers that were to follow. the Fifty-Fifty was just warming up. First up was Bury What's Dead who wield a brutal attack on the senses. victoria is privileged to have such a powerful unit with ideas to back it up. The triple vocals work in an amazing way. Excellent songs in a crusty post hardcore sound. The Proles offered 77 style anarcho-punk which sounded like early crass records bands. Fucking awesome. They had the energy and conviction necessary to pull it off with grace and style. Iskra finished up with a brutal onslaught of metal riffs and mayhem. This band must have the most intense vocals in town! They unfortunately played a brief set as the show had to close down at midnite. The crowd participation on this night was a rare treat for Victoria. When was the last show where we had a full dance floor? People went crazy! This was the final touch for me. All in all an awesome show! Looks like we have a new wave of political bands. - Sun, 26 Oct 2003 11:51am

brad User Info... | wow..what a show! i enjoyed how max sloan incorporated the percussion and bass into his readings..it really gave it flare and dynamics. Ron Solkowsky was excellent, i wanted to hear more, his poems got thier point across but remained light hearted at the same time..Lisa b i missed most of while getting gear from the truck..but she spoke with passion and captivated the capacity crowd in attendance. i love the 50/50 what a great venue...just the right size, and the perfect atmosphere for the tone of the night. the crowd was awesome..the bands could have used a bigger p.a. as some of the vocals were drowned out. (i play in BWD..so all i'll say is that we all had a blast playing this show...it was our first show in victoria other than our basement) i really liked The Proles..these kids are still in high school but have a great sound and energy..in the parts where they were confident...it really showed...looking forward to playing with them again..ISKRA...what can I say? i love this band...even amidst technical difficulties and falling cymbals they are able to blow everyone away with their sheer power and energy..with brutal guitar riffs and driving rythms..this band is not to be missed. the crowd was slow to start for them...but made up for it when they finally did get it going. too bad they played so late...a few people had left and missed out. cheers to the 50/50 who stepped up & made this show happen after Vertigo pulled the plug a week before. i hope more shows like this one happen there..its a great venue run by really cool people..and that can only help build our scene. - Sun, 26 Oct 2003 7:52pm
