Message Board > Show Reviews > Satriani, Vai, and Malmsteen |
Pierce User Info... | Well I saw the trio last night with fellow Sonic Doom-ist Sudz. Here is my opinion.... Malmsteen: He was quite the entertainer and by far was best recieved by the crowd. He was fat, big hair, spandex-ed and leather-ed! He could fuckin shred, but the same solo over and over was a bit much after about 30 minutes! Steve Vai: Took the show. Flawless. His first song was just him playing a Triple (3) Barrel Ibanez. 12 string, 7 string and 6 string. Then he was backed by a deadly band. Steve Vai rocks! AWESOME AWESOME!!! Was worth the ticket just to see him. Joe Satriani sucked. very bland, boring, like he was just going through the motions. His lights sucked, soundman sucked. Joe sucked last night All 3 of them together was a bit much as well. Everytime Malmsteen played there was a horrific buzz. All in all i was dissappointed BUT Vai made it worth while. If i was going just to see Vai, which I would have, i would have been happy. - Wed, 15 Oct 2003 1:55pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Joe Satriani sucked?!? - Thu, 16 Oct 2003 12:23am
Pierce User Info... | Well from the responses on this thread, i take it me and sudz were the only ones from here to have gone seen it. And yes, Joe Satriaini, didnt do well in my eyes at all. - Thu, 16 Oct 2003 2:36pm
Jesse User Info... | Yngvie is the epitomy of cheese... watching him play just irritated me, I think he was a lame choice to have on the tour. I found the chemistry that Satriani and Vai shared at the end was just lost with Yngvie. Maybe if he spent more time actually playing his guitar, Instead of whipping it around his head, throwing picks and dancing like an old bloated fuck in leather pants I would have enjoyed him more... But that's just me (who throws out 9 picks in one song??) Steve Vai was fucking amazing, In %100 control of his guitar, awe inspiring. And to top it off his band was phenomonal as well. By far the highlight of the night. Joe Satriani was amazing as well. Did anyone else fell that his mix was terrible? His guitar sounded amazing, but I could hear no backup guitar, barely hear the bass and could not hear any of the toms. The Jam at the end was ridiculous! I just got to see the 2 best guitar players in the world play Jimi Hendrix covers... thats fucking priceless. Overall, anyone that plays guitar that didn't go definitely missed out. - Thu, 16 Oct 2003 9:06pm

CC User Info... | fuck yngwie was what was needed at that show cheesy yes but i call it 'tasty cheese' vai was definitely the shit though flawless and soulful he ruled the evening killer band he had too and yes satch seemed like he was goin thriough the paces a bit but he definitely did NOT SUCK id like to see any fool in vic play like that and the end of the show with all three players doing rockin in the free world ,little wing, voodoo chile, and to my amazement la grange by ZZtop was damn cool! yngwie made it a rock show and not just guitar hero showboating yeah he whipped his guitar around his neck and threw out way too many pix and chuckes his guitars off to the roadie but that was all the fun stuff youd expect from him id much rather see that than robert johnson or whoever the fuck stand there and try to impress with thier vituosity yngwie broke up the nerdiness of all the geeky guitar worshipers and threw in the needed light heartedness vai and satch were getting a kick outa it too and to all the naysayers that think this was just an 80's hair-tard foolfest glad you stayed home....if you woulda seen it you might have enjoyed it though if you could lighten up and stop being so uptight it was something that im glad i got to see even though i dont try to play like that (cuz i admitedly cant) i think its damn cool to be able to i like over the top playing as well as minimalist stuff heres to those who went and had good things to say about it cheers CC - Sun, 19 Oct 2003 1:59am
Zippgunn User Info... | Wow, it sounds like there was sufficient wankage to cover the first few row with spoo! I love the comment about the lights sucking. And the three of em playing Hendrix; look, just go buy the Hendrix DVD and forget about these posers. I'm surprised tha Rick Neilson wasn't there with his 5 neck Hamer; woulda fit in just fine except that he at least occasionally plays with taste and restraint. - Sun, 19 Oct 2003 1:33pm

" who bothers counting how many picks a guy is tossing, you missed the point, but i guess it would be a different story if you could play that well, which you cant, and as for rick neilson ,restraint is all that guy has, why is being a decent musician so harshly criticized, i dont get it, and satch did suck, a lame performance - Sun, 19 Oct 2003 3:19pm

SentencedtoBurn User Info... | Last time I checked Anonymous rhymed with "I'm a fucking idiot who's opinion is invalidated by my spineless nature." Or something of the like. - Mon, 20 Oct 2003 2:30pm
Pierce User Info... | Well yes of course it was GOOD music and very talented. My original post still reflects my opinion. I grew up listening to this stuff, and have always dreamnt of and pretended to be Vai or Satriani. The way Vais set was played was what i expected and wanted. Satrianis band was very not what i expected. He went through the parts never once giving me what i wanted. The fact the lights blinded me for most of his set annoyed me too. EVERYONE around me were blocking their eyes because the light was so powerful. His sound was in no way well done. Maybe my seat sucked. SO yes you are right, Satriani DID NOT suck, he just wasnt the rock star guitar god i expected to see. Malmsteen in my opinion was best recieved , and yes he did add a very needed part to the show. Overall i was dissapointed at Satriani, but Vai made up for it, and malmsteen added his little bit by showing us that when you are a rockstar you get to yell and chuck your axe at anyone you wish! That poor dude caught the last one in the chin, he wasnt too pleased. It was awesome to be a part of that show! - Mon, 20 Oct 2003 4:59pm
Jesse User Info... | Wow Anonymous... To have an opinion now you have to be a guitar god? Well, maybe go by your own rules and shut the fuck up. Im sorry you're in love with a fat, bloated, showboating fuck. And how can you say Satriani sucked? Did you pay attention to what he was playing? - Mon, 20 Oct 2003 5:53pm
Anonymous User Info... | i am not spineless, my name is ross, and no i am not a guitar god but i have seen you play , and i can play fucking circles around you - Mon, 20 Oct 2003 6:00pm
Jesse User Info... | Well... This is a "show review" post, and thats what I was doing, reviewing the show. In my review I even state "but thats just me" as in, my opinion. Judging by your last comment, maybe you should move this to the "shameless self promotion" page. - Tue, 21 Oct 2003 9:28am

Perpetual_Burn User Info... | I think "anonymous" knows what he's saying. Ever seen him play? Or heard his albums? Fucking Brilliant! - Tue, 21 Oct 2003 2:56pm
RSBF User Info... | i'm sure Anon is great.... but so tacky to say "i can play circles around you". must be lacking in something to feel the need to have to say it. - Tue, 21 Oct 2003 2:58pm
Jesse User Info... | Yes, I have heard him play. He just sent me a solo of his through hotmail. I never doubted his playing, nor criticised it. Yes, the solo he sent me was killer, but it doesn't change how I feel about Yngwie. Fuck this messageboard is lame. - Tue, 21 Oct 2003 9:19pm
Perpetual_Burn User Info... | But the Cheese is what rocks all about! At least it used to be..... - Wed, 22 Oct 2003 1:45pm
_Griphin_ User Info... | Nobody should hack any of those guitarists down, though I am disappointed Satriani wasn't up to snuff (but obviously someone got a kick out of his performance). I must agree with Anonymous, having Malmsteen on the tour really damaged the energy of the tour, but someone felt it was well worth their money, so all is good. BTW Anonymous: Interested in jamming sometime? :) - Thu, 23 Oct 2003 2:32am
Knoblin User Info... | Wankery. They are "gods", sure, but I kind of like songwriting. Maybe you have to play guitar to appreciate this stuff. Sooo boring. - Sun, 26 Oct 2003 12:23am
