Livevic Scott User Info... | Went down to Sugar last night for the No Use show. Moneyshot stared the show off and played a short set, they looked really relaxed and if you hadn't had known you could have mistaken them for part of the tour. I hadn't seen em since May so they played a couple new ones too. I then got kinda bored during Irish Car Bomb's set, I just wasn't digging what they were doing. Then Useless ID (from Isreal no less) played a solid set, I had been hearing about these guys for a couple years now and they lived up to the gab, lots of nice vocal harmonies. Then NUFAN kicked though just over an hour of material, they played most of what I wanted to hear. No "Redemption Song" but you can't win em all. On a side note after reading some complaints about the sound at Sugar at The Weakerthans, Modest Mouse and other shows lately I was interested in hearing what the difference was considering its John that used to do sound at Soundgarden and everyone prised him to heven at that venue. I thought the sound was fine, there was a couple points where something was a bit too loud (the bass at a few points was drowning out vocals) but I think that was due to problems with the bass amp itself. Maybe the sound was way worse at thoes other shows but last night it was pretty good. - Sun, 14 Sep 2003 3:46pm
SoundGarden Nightclub User Info... | Actually Scott, john hasn't been doing sound at Sugar on a regular basis - only certain shows. It seems to me that the times people have complained are more often, if not always, shows John has not been a part of. Just an observation (and cause I enquired - John is THE best sound guy I have ever worked with and I have worked with many)You have to bear in mind too that many of these larger bands come with their own sound techs that usually make things difficult and are ultimately responsible for making the sound suck. Just my $0.02 - Sun, 14 Sep 2003 4:47pm
Heath User Info... | The John that did sound for No use for a name @ Sugar isnt even the same John who worked at Soundgarden. Different guy all together. Just happen to have the same name... - Sun, 14 Sep 2003 6:21pm
Livevic Scott User Info... | Good points =). I wasn't aware he wasn't doing sound for alot of the shows, I figured it was probably his rig in there for most of the shows so I figured he was probably doing sound for most of them too. Its a good point that the bands sometimes bring their own techs and if they're not used to working the room it might come off sounding worse then someone who's worked the room for years doing it. So long story short, yeah what you said makes sence =) Also .. there's too many John's that do sound in this town I can't keep them all straight in my head =) - Sun, 14 Sep 2003 6:22pm
DK User Info... | Moneyshot-Great as usual, go see them. Irish Car Bomb-Got fairly monotonous but I still think it was funny when the lead singer told some guy who was yelling fuck you "no fuck you, I don't come down to your job and slap the dick out of your mouth". Useless ID-Pretty good, really solid set. Plus it was greatly entertaining when the blonde kid got literally ripped out of his position on the front "gate". It was quite hilarious to hear him and the kids that tossed him into the pit acting tough and talking shit about each other after the incident. No Use For A Name-For the majority of their set they were a little to Pret-Punk for me. The crowd was energised though so it was a good time. Their drummer sucks though. - Sun, 14 Sep 2003 8:30pm
jepsycho User Info... | I had a lot of fun at the show BUT $15 to get in and then $4.50 for a beer what the hell was that all about? They definately need to come up with some cheap drink specials! - Sun, 14 Sep 2003 9:41pm
DK User Info... | 15 bucks was a decent price for a band the size of No Use for a Name. I got two free CD's at the show so I'm definitely not complaining. - Sun, 14 Sep 2003 10:32pm
jepsycho User Info... | I'm not saying the $15 was overpriced but the liqour sure as hell was! - Mon, 15 Sep 2003 12:05am
Josh User Info... | It was the same John from soundgarden, and the sound in there was great as always with him. He mixed front of house for all the bands except no use for a name, who had their own guy doing front of house while john did stage mix, unless I'm mistaken. - Mon, 15 Sep 2003 3:01am

Trailer Park Boy Julian User Info... | Missed Moneyshot unfortunately 'cause they're definitely one of my favorite locals. Irish Carbomb's set kinda limped along until they played a killer cover of Gang Green's "Alcohol"... then things seemed to pick up. Didn't really like Rendered Useless; too poppy for my tastes. No Use For A Name were alright but didn't really grab me by the balls.... - Sat, 20 Sep 2003 4:26am
