Well holy fuck! I just got home and let me say (no you can't stop me)...

It is really nice to see a "real" band from time to time. I persnonlly don't see a lot of "real" shows so when I do get out to them, it reminds me of what a "real" band is actually like.

Let's clear something up in case you were wondering...

Here is a definition for you...
"real" band: where the band members tour professionally (yes it is their job) and they practice as musicians for more hours each day than you masturbate or watch tv.

Of course no offense is meant towards any other bands that played that night but hey, I was in one of them so I can talk.

Kataklysm was fucking awesome! From start to finish that was an amazing show that we usually don't see in this city.

The turnout was pretty good and everyone who was there was crammed towards the stage for Kataklysm. It was simply cool.

If you missed the show, slap yourself since it was damn good. You can sure tell the difference when a band brings their own soundman... not to mention plays the fucking shit out of their instruments...

Bottom line, their drummer Martin was fucking nutz! That is what 3-6 hours a day of practice gets you (yes I asked him)...

In case any of you other drummers wanted to know (I did) from the moment they finished their soundcheck at the show, Martin (Kataklysm drummer in case you missed that point) was in the back room on the practice pads "warming up" before they played... for 3 and a half fucking hours that is! There you go...

Being one of the 'hot metal guys' at the show last night I feel it is my responsibility to post a reply...
Fuck yeah, this show kicked 10 kinds of ass; fucked as it is I only moshed for 1/4 of the set because I was too busy watching what the KATAKLYSM drummer was doing...3+ hours a day, eh? Can't say it's not evident...I was surprised that they even found a replacement for that style that quick!!!
PARIAH fucking tore too!!! Definitely has that late 90's swedish thrash element, which I like (just picked up an older EBONY TEARS album a while ago, if you like PARIAH then check these guys out.) ALLFATHER slayed with some classic, raw old-school black metal as I expected. The sound wasn't as good as when I saw them at Dizzy's in Nanaimo but it was good to see them nonetheless. REPULVERIZER was classic too, being a fan of MACABRE and LAWNMOWER DETH I enjoyed them...but maybe not in the way that others would think or expect....
All around, best $8 I ever spent, period. Great way to start the school year!!! - Thu, 4 Sep 2003 11:57am

Damn rights. My neck still hurts from all the headbanging. I am usually not that much of a headbanger, but that was so crushing, I had no choice. Best metal show I have seen in Vic in a long, long time. Kataklysm shred it so harsh. Arghh, I am still ready and rearing for round 2. Sometimes for a review, two words can describe it all - HOLY FUCK. Martin ruled, the guitar player didn't rip out alot in the way of solos, which was kind of surprising, but he had insane riffs. I wanna go see them again. Yeah too bad about the sound guy at Logan's because I have heard Allfather before and they sounded way better at Dizzy's. I wish I didn't miss Pariah, but shit happens. I have seen em twice now and they are my favorite local band that is currently giging.
All round a damn fucking good night. That new song, Ambassador of something, shredded. - Thu, 4 Sep 2003 2:44pm

Hehe thanks Akylore... But I really don't think we sound at all like ebony tears... Or do we???
Cuz if so, umm... well they must have a new album out or somethin ahah that or I'm just a retard *probably the latter*

And thanks lorralien, there were also hot metal chicks all over the bar lastnight as well, I looked around and thought "Am I at an ERD show or something???"

Something about that show that pissed me off though, was the group of assholes in the crowd calling down Kataklysm when they were explaining how out of their way they went to be here lastnight and how sorry they were for missing us last time.
For the record, Kataklysim went from Germany to Las Vegas and then out here to Victoria, drove 24hours to be here and they spent over $600 of their own money just to come here because they truely like Vic. and really do feel bad for not showing last time, so heres a big fuck you to the hecklers!!!

And, the fact that Kataklysim was impressed with the turnout and energy of the show, they are going to do their damndest to arrange a show with them, Dying Fetus and possibly Cannibal Corpse, there'll be a good 2 months of promoting if it goes through, and the band who opens that are gonna be some lucky mother fuckers ;)

Brad + Warren:
Damn, Brad hope your head is ok, I noticed we collided in the pit pretty good, you hit my forehead so I wan't hurt but you warren, I'm pretty sure the same parts of our heads collided *just under the eye* damn man that burned thought I was bleeding ahahah!
But I just got a bit of a bruise around the eye... you?

And lastly, Huge thanks to everyone who came down, When I said it I meant it, you all fucking kick ass.
Being the opener, I wasn't expecting much of a hairwhip but the response from you guys was truely awesome...
Every time I looked down, I saw banging heads and moshing, that made my fucking night for sure!!!

Big thanks to Repulverizer and Allfather for playing the show with us, Couldn't think of 2 better bands for the night, It was a nice and diverse lineup!

So yeah, I'm done with my Dennis Miller lengh rant now, stay tuned for future rippin shows!!!

And lastly *as if they see this but*
Kataklysm:
You guys fucking rule!!! Thanks from the pits of hell for all the shit you pulled to be there lastnight, all the kind words and especially your willingness to return with other bands!
You guys fucking kick ass, and next time, the crowd will make last night look like a ska show!!!

Last night was the best show I have ever seen in Victoria, Hands down.
Can't fuckin' wait till next time \m/

The news that Cannibal Corpse might come here is the best fucking news I have ever heard. I would love to see them again. The last time I saw them I was fifteen and just getting into (real) metal, so it would be good to go and actually enjoy the fuck out of that potential show. Thanks to all who continue to strive to keep the metal alive in this town. Kudos. - Thu, 4 Sep 2003 11:39pm

Hey Lew, I survived the collision with no pain, that I can remember. I woke up with a headache, but I assumed it was from the copious amounts of alcohol I consumed. There really wasn't that much moshing, and the moshing that occured I enjoyed alot. Everyone seemed more interested in just moshing to the music instead of inflicting damage. It was a damn good night. Damn good. - Fri, 5 Sep 2003 12:27am

Wow, that show was just pummelling. Pariah ripped it up just as expected, though I was itching to hear some At The Gates from them again. Repulverizer was pretty fucking priceless to watch. Reading the lyrics to "What does this have to do with Algorithmic Analysis" brought a tear to my eye... man, can I relate to those words! And Kataklysm... is there nothing so beautiful as a row of metalheads spanning the stage performing synchronized windmills??!?! I don't think there is... Apparently I get to witness this again in Vancouver on Friday... hopefully my neck is back in action by then. - Fri, 5 Sep 2003 1:22am

I saw Kataklysm/Infernal/Zuckuss/Moneyshot at the Cobalt last night. The highlight of my night was standing approximately 3 feet to the side of the stage watching Kataklysm's drummer. He's pretty fucking crazy. Anybody see what kind of pedal he used? I tried to make a conscience effort to check them out, but for the most part I was seeing 12 legs, 12 pedals and a bunch of blurry stuff. I'd say he was definitely worth the $10 admission. Overall, Kataklysm had a lot of good riffs, but I got bored from time to time in their set. Canada's 3rd best metal band. - Sat, 6 Sep 2003 11:51pm

I think the pedal choice is only a small part of his abilities.

The thing to notice was the amount of foot movement... almost none.

The thing that eludes me the most is how he got that much hand speed but his hands only moved up and down at half the speed he played.

Basically he has great technique... again, remember that is what practicing full-time does to you (given some natural ability).

Still, I gots to get my hands (more like my feet) on a set of those pedals :P And I just bought Iron Cobras 4 months ago... damn! - Sun, 7 Sep 2003 2:13am

Saw Kataklysm in Kamloops, they kicked ass, and Death, who cares if punk was on a bill with metal? AWT were an awesome addition to the bill ( in more ways then one heheh ) Oh but back to Kataklysm, they kicked extreme ass. I love that french canadian metal and those Quebecers sure can belt it out ( incidently, ML7 just signed a distro deal with Quebec's Galy Records.. ) Wicked new drummer. 7 years??
