paulyhardcore User Info... | despite numerous things going on said night, including TurboNegro, there was a really great turnout for fucked Up's return. i didnt care for the first band, the defektors, although they were good at what they did, indie-rock type stuff. I think the 2nd bands name is Vapid, and they were pretty good, really interesting sound. very oldschool punk with the female vocalist chanelling the talking heads' david byrne and going in and out of screaming and growling and then demure vocals - interesting sound, not sure if i can get totally behind it, but everyone seemed to be impressed. Fucked Up were there on time, incredible, and played an outstanding set. http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=69B33357D8CA40EC i did you asll a favour and recorded 90% of it and ordered it on youtube so it's sort of like being there. Damian is a caged beast set free on stage and delivered a solid performance with plenty of antics and debauchery. i think the highlit hgad to be at the end of "no Epiphany" he hoisted Ben up on his shoulderts and he carried out the rest of the song from up there cramped down under the ceiling, good times! their setlist was great and really flowed. Swingin' Joe User Info... | Man I wish these guys came to Victoria. Would be a very cool show. Someday, maybe. - Sun, 19 Apr 2009 10:20am
denny User Info... | It's too bad they played on the same night as Turbonegro. I would have gone otherwise. - Sun, 19 Apr 2009 11:56am
Sati User Info... | Pauly, that was you! omg, I was so tired, I didn't recognize you and couldn't hear you! Thanks for saying hello, haha... I was wondering what "that guy" was talking about. I thought it was something about me managing to stay into the music while ~250 lbs of weight was likely to fall on top of us from that rickety table (which they took away in parts afterwards, btw). Yeah, that was a fun show. I'll check out at least the first part of your videos because I dove out to another show between sets and missed a couple of minutes. (Tried to catch the hard feelings, caught joel's new band with Marty from ccr/the approach.) Defektors are pretty popular and one of them is also in Vapid. Awesome that they got the opening slots, they've done a ton of shows, have a good # of fans they brought out so they deserve it. Seem like great people and I enjoyed both. That girl's got all kinds of swagger!! Happy to finally catch Fucked Up, and probably moreso because of how stoked the crowd was about it! I walked around saying "so why aren't you at TN?", but I was joking... f'd up are great. Denny, its ridiculous we haven't met yet. Were you at the skinny party? do you come out Mondays? - Sun, 19 Apr 2009 12:51pm Edited: Sun, 19 Apr 2009 12:54pm
denny User Info... | Was that the skinny photo retrospective party? I was kicking ass at The Bronx that night, and by kicking ass I mean stage diving, taking notes and then partying with the band all night. And sadly no I have never gotten out to a Skinny Monday, which is kind of terrible considering I write for them, but my work is always insanely busy on a Monday and after I get home I can't get motivated enough to get back on my feet. The Biltmore sure is a nice spot though. - Mon, 20 Apr 2009 6:49pm
T. Depression User Info... | I'd pay to see The Defektors or Vapid over fucked Up any day. I like how The Defektors are an indie-rock band in your review...no they're not...they're a punk band. Remember when punk was about diversity? When bands as diverse as The Cramps, Stranglers, Suicide and Chrome were considered punk? Shit...listen to the stuff Fucked Up's been putting out lately...now THAT"S indie rock. Booooring. - Thu, 23 Apr 2009 9:56pm
