Cradle To Grave started out the night. I was pleasantly surprised by their vocalist's style and stage presence. He had that distinct Vancouver sound going on ala Cyanotic, which is not a bad thing. Great musicians. Some cool riffs. Great sound. The drummer was talented but didn't unleash his double bass nearly enough. They could have been way more shredding, but still awesome.
Pariah. WOW! Very talented and excellent songs. Bram brought them up a few levels as well, I'm sure as well. But musically I was in awe of Lincoln's drum prowess and the tightness of the guitars was also jaw dropping. Bram brought the whole show together with raging vocals and aggressive stage presence. It was interesting to see Bram from the audience and brought me more appreciation for what he does than I even had before. Pariah definitely ruled the night.
Explosive Rage Disorder was next. As usual they ripped shit up. Haven't seen them play in a while, but I have to say they had a show that maintained their mean streak throughout. They are inching their way towards finishing their CD (I know how that is...sheesh!) and I am anticipating checking it out. Ben was on the ball last night and they were very cohesive.
Infernal Majesty. 80's cheese. Tight. Seasoned (like a 7-11 burrito). Old...well, some of them. These guys have been around for years and it shows. Eventhough their riffs are dated, they managed to hold my interest throughout their set, which is quite a feat for an 80's based band these days. The Satan schtick grew old before they hit the stage, yet I heard old man devil's name a few times.
Overall, great sound! The bar is a bit narrow which makes me think Great White might like to play there and the drinks are insanely priced (my double vodka-ginger was $7.50!), but the sound in there balances it all out.
Thanks to Pariah for the guest listing and to all the bands for putting on awesome shows! - Sat, 23 Aug 2003 8:53pm

Cradle To Grave were basically Stone Sour type generic hard rock stuff and I wish they had spared us the Pantera cover. Pariah were alright though their sound lacked some definition (Lucky doesn't have the best sound). Explosive Rage Disorder sounded almost exactly like Abuse of Power (read that as you will) and played waaaaay too damn long. Infernal Majesty were fucking amazing, definitely refreshing to see some true, ripping metal (think a more consistently rocking Vader with a little The Haunted) after a night of mostly lame ass butt rock.

Peeps in Nanaimo are in for a treat tonight since Dizzy's has a kick ass PA and Infernal Majesty are gonna tear the place up. - Sat, 23 Aug 2003 9:24pm

The P.A. at Dizzy's is certainly awesome, but the soundmen there are consistently terrible.
Hope it goes well though! - Sat, 23 Aug 2003 9:52pm

Ok. Time for a serious review. Pariahs sound was awesome and having fog for their set was a great idea. Whoever did their sound did a great job. (Despite what everyone says about the sound guys at Lucky) That only made it more fun. In combination with shredding solos it was an amazing show. ERD was pretty good also. Cradle 2 the Grave were pretty funky. Their set was totally fun. I think I might actually want to buy a CD of theirs. Infernal were hilarious. Heavy music served witrh cheese. How do you go wrong with that? In the end though Pariah fully dominated the night. I went home with cartilage burning going through my head all night and well into the next day. Keep up the good work guys! You rock!!!
