Thanks, Ron and Soma (and the other folks on the bill) as well as a very bemused apology that Peruke managed to almost completely clear the whole fucking place out. - Sun, 5 Apr 2009 7:23am

I think the lights being on harshed my buzz during your set, Doug. Very fucking pumped on your new material, though. You guys sound heavier every time I see you. Kicks were tight, I was taking notes.

First band, unfortunate choice of backdrop. I'm not sure if that was the performers pick or what but weird pseudo-sexual art film makes my skin crawl at an all-ages show. Was enjoying the sounds, though.

Compound Terror, well .. we played. Probably for too long.

C S T L- guy is win. holy shit. 3 minutes of terrifying noise.

Sistrenatus- master of this craft. Was transfixed for the entire piece, and cannot wait to see him again. - Tue, 7 Apr 2009 8:40am

All in all this show went really well, I thought. Thanks to everyone who played, solid sets all around. Thanks also to moRon for handling sound and intrepid volunteers Cory and Jennye for covering door/donation duties and a/v advice. More peeps at this show than the last, so that's good, even if they took off here and there! Merch table was a near fail, but I guess that's not a new thing for Victoria =).

As far as audio goes, I did record the show, but then due to some major idiocy on my part I erased the file BEFORE making a copy of it. So that's gone, but I could make a .wav file of me sobbing if it would help anyone to grieve the file loss. What I do have left is some photos and video clips that I'll post later on this week after I get them edited together.

As far as the accompanying video for the Clouds below goes, in my reading, it wasn't so much sexual (on the surface maybe) as about the kinds of bonds we as individuals wrap/entrap ourselves in. This relationship is represented visually through the wrapping of the surgical gauze over the body and the bottles of pills that were everywhere. The unwrapping of the gauze and the destruction of the pill bottles alludes to a sort of freedom from these bonds in particular but serves as a metaphor for the ties that 'we' let bind us, and the personal freedom/power we have to reject those bonds.

You are entitled to your opinion, but in mine, there was nothing inappropriate about the material. Even further, I would add that youth are never served well by some sort of false social modesty -- they are highly aware of both: a) what is going on in the society around them; and b) the topics addressed in the film. Might that be uncomfortable? Sure, maybe. Regardless though, youth (like adults) deserve to be engaged in a dialogue about what they see and experience in the world, not be protected from reflecting critically upon those circumstances. My 2cents. - Tue, 7 Apr 2009 5:18pm

Interesting takes on the film.
Canon.docre, I’m wondering what you meant by pseudo-sexual? I'm curious, what your interpretaion of the film was?-what do you think fragmented shots, bandages/pills, entrapment, represented/read as?
I agree it is important to educate/provoke thought among young people on what I saw to be the topics of the film. I think it was suppose to make our skin crawl.

Zinger, well put. I will be forwarding your response to those responsible for the film.

Canon.Docre,

I can fully understand where you are coming from with that comment. It was my choice to use that film and I did give it a lot of thought. Ive seen it a few dozen times and never really perceived it as overtly sexual, but can see how on the surface the images of a woman not 'fully' clothed could be perceived as sexual.. kinda like Michealangelos 'David'.

... and yes It was meant to make your skin crawl.
Thanks again to Soma, Ron, Camas and the other bands. Wish I didnt have to leave right after... F#%*ing work!!! http://www.myspace.com/thecloudsbelow

anyone with pictures from that nite..? Id like to see. - Wed, 8 Apr 2009 10:05am Edited: Wed, 8 Apr 2009 10:09am

I don't think I'm taking that video too far out of context when I say a young woman/girl in her underwear binding herself has sexual overtones, even if one can argue from an artistic standpoint that its not. While watching I thought about the symbolism of the video and came to some of the same conclusions that Zinger did. I don't think that video was over the top, and I guess I don't particularly see anything wrong with it other than it seemed like a toned-down nod to the power-electronics weird pre-occupation with porno and perversion, and its Camas Books and blah blah I'm a PC fucking loser so .. on second thought I won't get into it. Let's just say I wasn't surprised to see it at a noise show, and thought it was lame so I stood outside for most of it. Consider me provoked.

On the subject of youth and sexually explicit material, I am not some sort of moral alarmist. However, I don't think Michealangelos 'David' has a great deal in common with what comes across as an artistic fetish video. Perhaps I'm manifesting some sort of Freudian dysfunction where I project sexuality onto something that is totally inert in that regard, but I really doubt it. - Thu, 9 Apr 2009 11:30am

Canon. I can totally appreciate how and why you came to feel the way you did. It was surely not my intention to push you from the room but I am glad it evoked a reaction of sorts. something is better than nothing.

re:Mich'sDavid...

A replica of the statue was offered as a gift by the municipality of Florence to the municipality of Jerusalem to mark the 3,000th anniversary of David's conquest of the city. The proposed gift evoked a storm in Jerusalem, where religious factions urged the gift be declined, because the naked figure was considered pornographic. Finally, a compromise was reached and another, fully-clad replica of a different statue was donated in its stead...

... maybe she should have wrapped her fully-clothed body in tensor bandages.

also I am curious what "...toned-down nod to the power-electronics weird pre-occupation with porno and perversion..." is referring to.. i googled but you can only imagine what I had to sift threw. http://www.myspace.com/thecloudsbelow - Thu, 9 Apr 2009 2:29pm Edited: Thu, 9 Apr 2009 2:33pm

eh I'm really no scholar on the subject on sub-genres here but I've come across my share of questionable acts randomly, or thru association with/side projects of metal bands (like mikko. clandestine blaze fucking rule.)

honestly I'm more captivated by live noise, but there are definitely exceptions to this rule. not really just noise, but genocide organ are probably my favorite on record, probably for being pretty much the first noise I stumbled across, but they're sketch-bags too. - Mon, 13 Apr 2009 1:19pm
