Congratulations Arnie! That was one that should go down in the history books. Well, it will, in ours, of course.

You made no mention of who the first band were, and no one at the show seemed to be expecting them either, but I'd heard from friends that this band was coming together. That made the night for me right there - Connor's one of my top 3 metal vocalists, and every one of that drummer's projects which I've had the opportunity to see develop have become great bands I get really excited to see. I think they've all started off slow in my opinion, but grew by leaps and bounds in no time. (Btw, I'm pretty choked that some aren't playing any more - wtf???)
Anyway, for a first show, I'd say Comes the Night was pretty good. They seemed a little all-over-the-map, but I'm sure they'll distill it down in no time. Part way through he got focussed and you saw him get into character & drive himself into that insanity thing.... its been way too long, that was killer!
I feel so much better about whats to come around here - things were getting really dull here for a while.

I like System Shit usually, and I thought they were pretty good this night, but they were asked to drag out their set because of Morbosidad delays, which became a little tedious. You have to hand it to them though - I doubt any metal band would be able to do that! I'd imagine most would probably say fuck off and bail, haha. Anyway, I swear SS got out the newfie drinking songs by the end of it. Tough crowd to play for and they handled it great, no backing down, no fear. Plus it was refreshing to see a band at a metal show talk out loud about real life things they believe in.

Sindios didn't make it over the border, something about bullets being frowned upon, perhaps?

The crowd were pretty interesting. Not a bad turnout, but a LOT less of the older metalheads there than I'd expect for a big show like that. Well, it was a big show to some of us. It was great to see Arnie so stoked - I saw you kinda losing it & starting to jump around before Morbosidad started, ha!
I honestly didn't know quite what I was in for with M, but I would have been kinda excited about the first band, had I known they'd be playing!

Morbosidad was such a great thing to witness. It seemed like a reminder to some, and a lesson to the rest of us who'd missed an essential chapter in local metal. Whatever it was, I'm pretty sure these guys nailed it. It was good to see some of those local guys who joined them actually doing what they're known and respected for live, instead of just having to take it as a given when we see them hanging around like everyone else. You could feel the pride after certain parts and after the show... that was a big night for them and its cool that some of the people who matter to them most were there to see and be a part of it.
And THATS a beautiful guitar.

I've got to say though, that'd I'd LOVE to have heard the Morbosidad guys' requests answered and the lights turned off. Its really been wierd in the last year watching metal bands lit up like its a britney spears concert or something. I don't care if its punk shows or even those happy-metal bands, or even last night for glitzier bands with a different crowd like Chosen & Muspellheim, but a lot of death metal's dark and black metal's DARKER and those lights cause confusion. They're harsh and kill the mood, and seriously I'm surprised those guys who never see the sun don't seizure.
Could you imagine seeing just the whites of that guy's eyes (he sang with them up in his head the whole time - wicked!), the belts and the bible in flames being thrown around in the right atmosphere? Remember Anatolian & Demyse shows, and Descension shows in the dark with the goats/skulls on stakes and flames? They were beautiful - got the point across and killed.

Anyway, thanks again, I had such a great time. - Sun, 19 Apr 2009 2:43pm Edited: Sun, 19 Apr 2009 2:50pm
