Japanese Air Force User Info... | Easily the best crowd I've seen in Steamers all summer, and a fantastic show, to boot! Gilles and Al did a great job opening. Armchair Cynics did their usual excellent set. The new song is damn cool. Big Muff was rocktastic. Everyone seems to get more and more comfortable on stage each time I see them. Great job working the crowd and keeping the night rolling. The songs were tight and the playing was solid. Definitely a great show all around! ~JAF - Sun, 10 Aug 2003 2:52pm
ML7Mike User Info... | Musta been a good crowd, we couldnt get in! The lineup was long and not moving and about 10 of us showed up so we went elsewhere... - Sun, 10 Aug 2003 3:27pm
rounder User Info... | god i love girls with guitars. a class act all around. - Sun, 10 Aug 2003 6:57pm
DK User Info... | Jules and Al were great, The Cynics are better each time I see them - definitely getting the whole radio hard edged rock thing down pat. As for Big Muff... more like big joke, essentially they were a little more then awful. When the girl with the ponytails tried to sneer out "goddam motherfuckin" I almost wept it was such a strained attempt at trying to be "rock and roll". On a positive note, Steamers is an excellent place to see a show, the crowds have been excellent whenever I have been there and pretty much everyone in the bar is interested in the band, which a lot more then I can say for some venues. - Sun, 10 Aug 2003 8:08pm
Mariel Miller User Info... | thanks to Gilles and Al and also the Cynics. you guys ruled! We had so much fun and an awesome night. It was really cool to see so many goddamn motherfuckin people come out for it :) hehe Sorry we ran out of CDs at the door! We weren't expecting that many people. But if you didn't get one and were there, send us and email and we'll get one to you. Victoria is definitely a wicked city to be in a band. - Mon, 11 Aug 2003 8:34am
Zippgunn User Info... | I went just to get the CD, caught BM's soundcheck and then felt real tired so I went home. Sounds like I missed a good one, but for some reason I can't get comfortable in Steamer's. Maybe it's the crowd, maybe the layout, maybe it's just me being a grumpy old fart. Probably the last, eh? - Mon, 11 Aug 2003 12:00pm
The Dude User Info... | Well, the acoustic set from the boys of JAF fucking rocked. The Armchair Cynics came out and put on a show, they just keep rippin` it up more and more, and that new song at the very end was intense. You guys have so much energy. Then Big Muff came on and I had a big yawn and needed another shot to keep me going. They just don't do it for me. You guys just stand there and play. The Cynics were all over the stage, jumping, running, smashing, playing there music with some heart. Not that you girls don't have the heart but you have no show to go with the music. Next time I wouldn't get a band to open that knocks your socks off. I can't figure out what is funnier, The Cynics opening for you, or you ladies doin` MUCH Does Victoria, while the Cynics are on the side lines. - Mon, 11 Aug 2003 2:22pm
MattC User Info... | I too was scared off by the big lineup at 11:30. I figured to have a lineup that late, the place must be packed. Mariel, dont listen to these dudes. you must be doing something right if you packed more people in steamers than anyone else has this summer. congrats on the much does vic gig. Im afraid Im gonna be going 0 for 2 on the BM gigs since you guys got back from the tour. I need to get a copy of your cd, let me know how. - Mon, 11 Aug 2003 5:14pm
Dick Splint User Info... | Armchair cynics sound a lot like Our Lady Peace (I loathe them), but they do have a good deal of energy, a "good look" and they are radio friendly. Though it kind of pains me to say it, if there is to be a "next big thing" to come out of this city, it will be them. They have the package. Big Muff? Well, it pains me to say anything bad about them because I have met a couple of the band members (who work at L&M) and they are really nice people and seem very supportive of the rest of the music coming out of this city. They have some catchy songs, but it isn't much different than old Veruca Salt stuff. And their collective stage presence is lacking as well. That being said, I think there is a lot of potential there. Gilles sounds great in a Anne Murray Christmas Special sorta way. Just kidding - I missed that portion of the show. - Tue, 12 Aug 2003 4:42pm
