The Paul of Les User Info... | The night opened with Pendemic coming on stage. They rocked the place with their harcore metal in the stylings of Biohazard and ny hardcore. Their singer was ok, not too special, but I was very impressed with the band. They kicked ass, very tight. Then after a while of being threatened with having the show shut down cuz it apparently was too loud which may have been true but it was the best sounding all ages show i've heard in a while. Everything was mic'd and it sounded sonic in the pit.. anyways after the cops chilled things got back to business. Next up was Unlabeled. I saw these guys once a while ago and they were pretty good then too. They played some rock-punk-pop-punk..whatever you wanna call it. The crowd really seemed to dig them. Very high energy band on stage. Good overall sound as a band, nothing was really standing out, but nothing sucked at all. Next up was Kickback who didnt announce their name until the end of their set! WTF, i guess they were diggin their set too much. Anyways they played a heavy sludge metal set.. that's the best i can describe it.. AiC meets Down meets Kyuss type feel. Very melodic but at the same time it had drive and kicked you in the face. These guys were my favorite band of the night, i'd never heard them before.. are they new? or are they signed to a label and never come to the island? if they arent signed they probably should be IMO. They had a bunch of problems with their drum kit sliding around as unlabeled covered the stage in water earlier, but they played the best. They were very tight and their drummer has some good beats. Stand out was their singer/guitarist. Intensity, he's got it. Great guitarist good singer and i swear he broke his neck headbanging. I gotta respect the dude cuz in one song he was still singing a chorus or something and soloing at the same time. It was awesome! Last band up was Seasons of Sorrow. I'm not sure how to describe them either. Definately on the more goth side of metal. They were wicked cool. I loved the double bass stuff it was cool and thier guitarist had some good riffs too. Singer had good presence too. Overall a good tight metal band. For the 5 bucks i spent on this show i got every pennies worth and i'm definately gonna see these bands again! - Tue, 5 Aug 2003 1:41am
SOS Jesse User Info... | Fuckin rights, you'll get your chance pretty damn quick. Seasons of Sorrow, Unlabeled, Pendemic and Cthulhu will be tearing shit up at the Elks Lodge in Nanaimo (595 Townsite Rd) on Friday August 22nd. The show at Lantzville Hall was killer. Kickback User Info... | Hey dude glad you liked the show. It was a awesome time for us. We dont seem to play that often anymore so when we do we go all out. And yes I almost broke my neck, it was hurtin pretty bad for the next few days. No we arent signed yet, but that might change soon. As for the next show, we have no idea right now.. it's a bitch trying to get onto lineups cuz we dont really sound like anything this music scene is into. We're gonna try to play a string of dates on the island sometime soon. Keep coming out to the shows and speading the word about us. Next show hunt me down and say hi. - Fri, 15 Aug 2003 11:39pm
