Mr. Hell User Info... | Got there for the last few songs of Swallow The Sun. As Aaron Clark pointed out, they sounded like an intro to a song that lasted the entire song. The main riff of their last song was quite amazing. They reminded me of early Anathema. In the right mood, I could dig them. Warbringer thrashed, and thrashed, and thrashed. They thrashed so much that I lost track of the thrashing. Samey. Vocals were kinda weak. Some great mosh parts, but just set on top speed for too much of the set. Darkane did not sound like the recordings I have heard of them. I was expecting more of a Strapping twist to their set. I found that they really were most effective when they grooved out and cut the same old fast kick-snare business. Pummeling in those staccato sections. Vocalist could use more diversity. Pretty decent overall. Soilwork should have blown people's heads off. A combination of vocals being too low in the mix and half the people in the back wondering what the hell band they were watching kind of dragged the spirit of the show from where I was standing. Bjorn Strid is an amazing vocalist and it was disappointed to not be able to hear his clean vocals. It was especially odd when they played 'As We Speak' and the sound became completely full and professional. Every nuance could be heard. If only the entire night was sounding that way. What the hell happened there? Yes, overall, the sound was blurred throughout the evening. Undefined. Nevertheless, I had tons of fun. Saw many faces that I haven't seen in some time and Soilwork were top notch performers! Hopefully they come back again and their set sounds like 'As We Speak' did the whole way through. I don't think people realize just how good this show was. They couldn't hear most of it. - Tue, 3 Mar 2009 3:37am
Bo User Info... | My sentiments exactly. Damn work is sucking today - Tue, 3 Mar 2009 9:01am
LETSGETRAD! User Info... | i cant believe the show started so early, im eating my damn dinner and got a text saying swallow the sun was on so i peddled my ass downtown as fast as i could to only catch the last 10 minutes. theyre the ones i wanted to see, fuck. warbringer were also awesome, saw them with Finntrol and ill see them again when they come back for sure. sure they just rip off Slayer for 45 minutes but its so fun who cares. Doom Claws and thrash necks all around i left halfway through Darkane for pizza and then went home - Tue, 3 Mar 2009 1:23pm
Bo User Info... | Well 4 bands on the bill, they didn't have much choice but to start 'early' I would think. But I know what you mean; when I see a show listed from 9-2 I usually assume the first band will start at 10 (from experience) so I don't get there before then since I hate standing around spending too much money on beer. - Tue, 3 Mar 2009 1:43pm
Above the knee User Info... | The sound for Darkane and Soilwork fucking sucked.. it sucked HARD. It may have been influeced by me being in the front row though... Anyways, I was uper excited for this show and though I had a blast, I am really diappointed in not being able to hear the guitars and vocals for two of my favorite bands. When Darkane's set started I was left wondering if the guitars were even in the mix at all.. It was such an anticlimatic feeling... Anyways, Darkane's setlist was great and I agree that wehn they locked in rhythmically they were punishing as fuck. Soilwork were pretty damn good too but I wasn't as pleased with their setlist... call me an elitist prick or whatever but I wouldnt shed a tear if they never played anything off the last 3 albums. Was disapointed to see that songs from Figure Number 5 were the best received since I believe that to be one of the most disapointing metal albums ever... anyways, rant over - Tue, 3 Mar 2009 5:42pm
evilkleg User Info... | So it wasn't just me who couldn't hear the vocals? Thought I was going more deaf... I remember at one point watching the Soilwork guitarist on the right clearly soloing but not hearing anything at all from him. Then right at the end the sound guy turned him up so I could hear the last four notes. Super. I agree it's too bad we couldn't hear the clean vocals. It's one of the things that Soilwork does well (the back and forth between vocal styles). I had fun though. Saw lots of friends and was able to meet a few new ones. I also agree that the newer Soilwork stuff could be left out of the set. A little too nu metal for me. However, I really like the first track on Figure Number Five that they did play. It's too bad the rest of the album sucks the high hard one. How about that Darkane guitar player with the shaved head and goatee? Man that dude can shred! - Thu, 5 Mar 2009 3:00pm
Name / Alias User Info... | I was standing right next to the sound board for the entire Soilwork set (as I try to do for pretty much any show)& the first couple songs the vocals were totally buried. After about the 3rd song or so, it's like the soung guy found the "decent mix" button & the vocals were totally audible after that. That guitar player on the left was flawless!!! Overall, a very good show, especially consider we didn't hafta catch a ferry to see it. - Fri, 6 Mar 2009 7:37am
Mr. Hell User Info... | By the sound board was probably the only place it was sounding decent. If only the sound board was everywhere. - Fri, 6 Mar 2009 2:41pm
Above the knee User Info... | So I heard that all the Darkane guys except the singer were all sick as fuck on the Victoria stop, which would explain the lack of any real thrashing around... the guy playing the strat actually had to leave the tour he was so sick so they are now playing as a 4 piece - Sun, 8 Mar 2009 12:22pm
