I didn't hang around for The New Fi - had to work early the next morning, and 90 extra minutes of sleep won out over a late night. Not really "punk as fuck," I know, but what can I say? I'm not a pup anymore.

Lanudronauts rocked! Any band that brings bubble machines to their shows deserves massive respect. Add in sharp white suits and a bunch of tunes about laundry-room intrigue, and you can't go wrong. And I tell ya, my clothes after the set were somehow cleaner than they were before the set. Honest, I swear.

Tranzmitors were next, and this was the band that got me out on this night. Fantastic set, great crowd interaction - these guys were tight. Sharp dressers, too.

And it was so cool to see local MLA Rob Fleming rocking out in front and buying the band a round. If we had more people like him writing the playbook in this province, people in need would be getting help. Instead, we can look forward to a three-week party that will sink BC for the next few decades. Montreal just squared-up its Olympic debt, 30 years after the Games there. Nice legacy we're leaving for our kids here in BC. - Sat, 21 Feb 2009 9:49pm

I gotta say I haven't seen The Tranzmitors in a while, and wasn't sure what to expect from this show. The Tranzmitors output has been kinda hit or miss...with one killer track on each of their singles, and then a snoozer of an LP. Shit, I haven't even really listened to their latest record. Anyway...they started their set with my favorite song of their's, and proceeded to turn a great set of really tight pop tunes. Still sharp as shit without sounding slick or sterile.

The Laundronauts did their thing...schtick-rock that's amusing at first, but really not that interesting. I found that after seeing these guys a couple times, I was wishing they'd drop the schtick and just play some songs.

The New Fidelity sounding really fucking bland when listening to them on the internet...I too, left early, but what I caught of their set sounded way better than their recorded stuff. Still, too bad for them that they had to follow The Tranzmitors...at least people were starting to feel the effects of the alchohol by the time they went on.

I gotta admit that I was a little shocked by the lack of people in the bar when I arrived at 10:30..15 or 20 epople milling about...I thought it was gonna be a total dud show, but by the time The Tranzmitors hit the stage, the place was actually pretty packed.

Fun show...one of top 5 best I've seen in the past year and a half....based on The Tranzmitors set alone. - Sun, 22 Feb 2009 11:21am

I have to agree with T.Depression about the Laundronauts...

I saw them open up for the Dirtbombs and felt embarassed for them...what a sad stchick. It's pretty lame and not entertaining at all...

Write some solid songs and play them well...don't focus all of your energy on your stchick...which really isn't all that interesting to begin with.

I'm all for good local garage bands...but from what I've seen so far, I'll wait and hope for some new garage acts to hit the stage and avoid the Laundronauts when I can. - Sun, 22 Feb 2009 10:02pm

Let me say this about the Laundronauts...they are great guys...and their rythm section used to be half of a really decent garage band from Edmonton called The Drastics. The Laudronauts are just too slick, polished, and "mature" sounding for my tastes...and Itotally get what you're saying about hopw you felt about them at The Dirtbombs show. Garage rock is supposed to be raw and dirty...not sterile and clean. It's like thet've never heard a punk record in their lives... - Mon, 23 Feb 2009 7:40am

A little birdie told me of this post . . . ;-)
Big thanks to Heather for putting three well-dressed bands on stage and promoting something a little different.
And thanks to all the happy people who came and enjoyed the show!
And Matteus for updating our live vid portfolio!
And thanks, lads, for caring about that poorly attended Dirtbombs show last year. No need to feel bad tho, it was a GREAT networking opportunity for us! It directly led to our fall mini-tour in California, and next month we're jetting to Detroit to work with Jim Diamond (Jon Spencer, White Stripes, Dirtbombs, etc.) on our first album.
Cheers. http://www.myspace.com/thelaundronauts - Fri, 13 Mar 2009 1:44pm Edited: Fri, 13 Mar 2009 1:46pm
