Japanese Air Force User Info... | Okay. I gotta admit, I was plesantly surprised with Rockets Red Glare and Mico. I couldn't totally get into RRG, but they were pretty fantastic at what they do. After the little hissy fit at the beginning, Mico was equally fantastic, really tight and polished. The singer has an interesting voice and the guitar sounds they chose were great. I also thought the drummer was super tasteful yet still played interesting parts. I'm going to be picking up their CD as soon as I can. It's too bad it was such a weak turnout, but I guess you have to be prepared for that when Jazz Fest and Folk Fest are in town. ~JAF - Sun, 29 Jun 2003 12:15pm
DK User Info... | I wasn't too high on RRG. I was quite impressed with Mico and I like JAF too despite the fact they are fairly radio friendly. - Sun, 29 Jun 2003 5:30pm
One Divided User Info... | hahahah DK, that was hillarious. "despite the fact they are fairly radio friendly" I could go on and on, but I think that quote says enough for itself LMAO... Tom, wish I could have made it, but I had a show with my radio friendly band.. Maybe I'll see you on canada day? -Adam - Mon, 30 Jun 2003 1:18am
Japanese Air Force User Info... | Haha.... you may just see me there, if I survive the "outside". Gilles and I are planning a little busking for Canada Day, so hopefully we don't get roasted. As for "radio friendly", I've definitely been called worse! ~JAF - Mon, 30 Jun 2003 1:40pm
DK User Info... | I really hope you're making fun of me. No... seriously. - Mon, 30 Jun 2003 3:20pm
Japanese Air Force User Info... | Absolutely not! Like I said, I'm okay with being called "radio friendly" and it's cool that you have good things to say, even if the music isn't your usual taste. Actually, we got called worse by some cockass standing outside of Logans after the show. I don't think what we played was to his liking.... :) ~JAF - Mon, 30 Jun 2003 3:23pm
DK User Info... | Heh, maybe he heard you on the Q once and he doesn't like Ed McBain. You guys were on RockToria right? - Mon, 30 Jun 2003 5:39pm
Japanese Air Force User Info... | Hah. No, we didn't partake in the schlocktoria curse, although, individually, I think we were on at least three, maybe four Rocktoria's... but not as Johnny Action Figure. And besides, this guy didn't really look like the Q listenin' type. He probably doesn't own one Tragically Hip or Gowan CD. I've been listening to the Mico CD on http://www.newmusiccanada.com, and I'm digging it. ~JAF - Tue, 1 Jul 2003 4:06am
Ryan Bill User Info... | I Don't understand why The G7 Welcoming Commitee can't release a cd by a band that doesn't have a 'melidic punk/pop sensibility'. The Rockets Red Glare were absolutly amazing. A Long frantic, melencholic arrangement of songs. They offed a much more inspired sound that actually makes me believe they care about what they are trying to say in their songs. No hair gel, no jumpkicks, no pouty vocalists. That stuff is getting pretty boring to watch. It seems to me that everytime I read an article about a great new 'up and coming' punk/pop band, they turn out to sound and act the same as the last one that came to town. You think that a label as PROGRESSIVE as the G7 could pick up on their falter and put something NEW out. thank you RyanBill - Tue, 1 Jul 2003 1:15pm
DK User Info... | What bands did your members have on Rocktoria? As for G7, they aren't too bad. They have WarsawPack on their label and WarsawPack are pretty cool. - Tue, 1 Jul 2003 2:11pm
Ryan Bill User Info... | I have little use for G7 - Tue, 1 Jul 2003 5:06pm
Japanese Air Force User Info... | There's Rocktoria 8 with ThinKing, 9 with Carolyn Neapole and 10 with PURRr. Ahhh, the memories. ~JAF - Wed, 2 Jul 2003 3:53am
DK User Info... | Heh I remember PURRr, they were all right. - Wed, 2 Jul 2003 4:53pm
KnifeGhost User Info... | Ryan Bill: Good call.... I'd heard a lot about RRG on the secret arcade message board, and checked 'em out based on that...... Rad show.... The guys were all cool to talk to, besides.... I've heard good things about Warsaw Pack, but other than that, I've heard nothing from G7 that really grabs me.... Mico, well, good at what they do, but *shrug*.... Seems like Mico was a good match with JAF, but RRG was compeltely out of place.... - Sat, 5 Jul 2003 5:38pm
Livevic Scott User Info... | To say that G7 does not release anything that dosn't have "melidic punk/pop sensibility" is a bit of an overstatement. I mean I wouldn't say that Che Chatper 127 (hardcore) or Malfaction (grindcore) have what you would discribe as "melidic punk/pop sensibility." Warsaw Pack are a jazz/hip hop group so again they're kinda different however I would say they have some pop sensibility (not that its a bad thing) .... They also seem to release stuff at fairly regular intervals ... alot of their bands just don't record all that much stuff... as for RRG sticking out on the bill .. it was kinda bound to happen that one band was gonna stick out since Mico and RRG were touring together and they sound so different from each other finding an opening act that would complement both is somewhat a daunting task =) - Sun, 6 Jul 2003 5:20pm
