Brooke and Leslie 50/50 Arts Collective - June 20th
This was supposed to be a high school dance theme and it definitely captured the atmosphere. During the first set, some guy got socked by his ex girlfriend; lots of wine directly from the bottle, couples groping on the dance floor and microphones feeding back like crazy all added to the ambience.
Musical highlights: Genevieve Castree rocking out with the RunchicoRun boys, Grayson's accordian solo. All the bands were good and a fun time was had by all! Except for possibly the guy who got socked. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 3:45am
Robyn Wow, that was the most fun I've had at a show in a long time. All the bands were just great. I especially liked the Who covers. Overall, great music, great crowd, great cake. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 4:14am

God, I miss Victoria sometimes. People from other cities tend to criticize or get freaked out by the uninhibited festivities in your little playland but fuck 'em. Vancouver kids are so painfully self-conscious. It sucks so much to go to see a really rocking band and everybody just stands there. Mercer is like the only person who can get these zombies swaying. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 4:55am

Even though I arrived late, I had an awesome time indeed. Best of the show in my opinion would indeed have to be the Who covers. BANG ON!

AND OMG!: After most people took off, members of Run Chico Run, Frog Eyes, and the inimitable Mr McCloud had a totally amazing improvised a capella session!

Anonymous It was really nice of frog eyes to play that bette midler song too. Those people are so generous. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 6:59pm
Anonymous I went, I had fun. I wouldn't say the bands were great though, just mediocre covers and really bad sound. Though it was cool that the Sensi-Tones did an Everly Brothers cover even if it didn't sound top notch. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 8:22pm
ho hum Hey, try to be positive, huh? Yeah, the sound wasn't amazing, but people were having fun! That's what's important, isn't it? Good. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 9:47pm
you can't appreciate a good thing sock-hops are notorious for bad sound. - Sat, 21 Jun 2003 11:54pm
whoboat soc-hops are not about sound, but rather about pain and glory, and I have the battle scars to prove it. - Sun, 22 Jun 2003 10:31pm
Jhames I'd say the highlight for me was definitely Ryan from Chet's version of "Till There Was You." People couldn't help but slow dance and fall in love in typical sock hop fashion. - Mon, 23 Jun 2003 2:01am
Anonymous Best show I've been to in a long time. Ryan made me melt with his crooning! Ms. Castree was fab and any band that covers the Who has got balls. Accordians are always good to mix it up a bit and a good dose of chaos. - Mon, 23 Jun 2003 11:51am
Anonymous a good time. a good time. - Tue, 24 Jun 2003 1:22pm
Anonymous Yah! It was a major courtousy that Cary did for us all in the room that night singing that song the way he did. That love traveled across this continent and and found it's way (by means of a inexpensive freight ship) to Africa! bravo dear Cary Bravo! - Wed, 25 Jun 2003 7:32pm
