ho hum | Yo La Tengo Sugar Nightclub Monday, June 16 I don't know... I was dissapointed. Does the sound in Sugar suck or is it just me? I would have liked to hear at least some of the lyrics. The set flowed between mellow - kind of boring with no audible lyrics at a big concert- and painful - feedback coming from every possible source. I like their new album, too. The only other show I've seen at Sugar was Cat Power, and both times there were sound problems and both times the crowd thinned out significantly by 30 min into the set. The thing is I could have bought one of their great albums for the $17 ticket price. This goes on the most dissapointing shows list. - Tue, 17 Jun 2003 5:08am
Ty Stranglehold User Info... | The Frank Black show had great sound. - Tue, 17 Jun 2003 8:33am
Ya Ya Ya | I wanted to like them, I wanted to be a cool kid in on the secret...sooo many people there I'm not sure what I expected, I noticed alot of an older crowd 25 and up...underground band...soundtrack instrumentals....tierd...yawning....I wanted to like them...I left 30 minutes in - Tue, 17 Jun 2003 5:47pm
Anonymous | . . .a shame, really. they only got better as the night progressed. while their set at times appeared contrived keep in mind they were on stage for aprox 2 1/2 hours and at their age, pacing is essential. sound problems were definately a factor. the royal theatre may have been a more appropriate choice of venue. - Tue, 17 Jun 2003 7:26pm

Fred the Dragon | I've seen quite a few bands in Sugar, and most times the sound is quite good. In fact, I'd say Sugar has the best sound out of all the night clubs (Legends, One, etc.) - Wed, 18 Jun 2003 1:23pm
a friend | a friend in vancouver said that the show there was amazing and heard that the show here was not as good. Too bad victoria, it may have been an off night or something... I will go check it out myself next time I get the chance. - Wed, 18 Jun 2003 1:33pm
Anonymous | vancouver show was essentially the same set with some minor variations towards the end. . . a longer request set and far superior sound made the evening more eventful, but essentially the same show that was offered at Sugar. - Wed, 18 Jun 2003 6:56pm
Anonymous | The reason the sound is good at Sugar is because SOS Prod pays the extra $ to have PAW come in and do the sound and bring in top of the line sound gear. PAW are the best in town and they do all the big shows at the Royal Theatre and all the festivals and other big shows. But whenever you have 500+ people at a show, there is bound to be some people who love it and some who aren't into it. I thought the show was great and also it was $10 cheaper that the Vancouver show. So quit yer bitchin - Thu, 19 Jun 2003 5:04pm
Anonymous | I saw the show in Victoria and thought it was quite spectacular, the clean sucked though. - Fri, 20 Jun 2003 7:15pm
