The Mad Subwoofer User Info... | Dang..what a show. Had a spare ticket and I couldn't flog it on anybody, too bad. Heavy, tripped out, etheral...sweet and melodic; show had it all. Forgot how much I dig his guitar playing. Very wide open style with a bit o' Frisell in there at times. What a rare treat to see this guy live, don't think touring is something he really does. For some of his cooler (weirder) material, look for the soundtrack to Swingblade, the Apollo "atmosphere's" with Eno; a "soundtrack" for the apollo moon landing events. I liked his production work on that Luscious Jackson album too. he get's some MASSIVE bass tones on his works..good stuff. Didn't see any Omnichord last night but I arrived kinda late. Anyone? - Sat, 14 Jun 2003 8:51pm

Anonymous | where to begin, the show was amazing, blade is a great drummer most people could learn quite a lot from watching these guys play. I feel sorry for the people who left right after the show, I stayed around and met dan and the rest of the guys(and girl, linda) not only that but he put out an invatation the watch sound check in Vancouver last night so me and a couple of friends went, not only did we see a two hour sound check at the commador but we got backstage passes and met dan, again... the show in victoria however was much better, you cant beet the acustics in that hall. - Sun, 15 Jun 2003 10:57pm

Anonymous | Did anyone go to the in-store? How was that? Did he do one in Vancouver? - Mon, 16 Jun 2003 11:55am
Mica Strong | Yeah, I went to the In-Store show. It was great. The drummer was really good and so was Lanois and the Woman who sang some harmony. His slide playing was awesome. What I was most impressed with though, was just how friendly and approachable the guy is. Absolutely no "CockStar" syndrome. I asked him to sign a CD for my son and he was willing to chat for a second, asked me about my family and actually listened. A great Canadian. - Mon, 16 Jun 2003 3:09pm
ticklefish | Yeah, the in-store show was phenomenal. It was only supposed to be a 20 minute set starting at 1, but he squeezed an hour out of it. It was in the acoustic guitar room, where there is a nice comfy leather couch, and they put a few rows of seats in there. My wife and I got there early, around noon, expecting a madhouse, and my wife being 9 months pregnant took up a seat on the couch to wait for the start. Lanois wanders in about 12:30, walks up to my wife on teh couch, asks her when the baby is due, shakes her hand and says "Hi, I'm Dan". He then lets people take photos with him. He starts up early, (same accompaniment as at his night show) at 12:50, talks a bit, plays for 10 minutes and sees all the people outside the room trying to listen, and stops playing and invites people to squeeze in, sit on the stage, lets someone sit on his stool for his pedal steel, so everyone squeezes in, on the floor, on the stage. He chats a bit, plays a lot, and just kept going. He let people ask questions, chatted about his gear, how his guitar was tuned etc. It was incredible, like has already been said, absolutely no rockstar attitude. He dedicated "Fire" from his new album to our about-to-be born baby....what a story we will have for that kid when he/she is old enough to appreciate who Lanois is. Unreal. It was like being in the guy's living room. I have paid big bucks to see big names before and seen some fantastic shows, but this little impromptu in-store show was perhaps the best experience I have ever had seeing a guy with such a huge reputation, and no ego at all. - Tue, 17 Jun 2003 1:32pm
