Donnie Black | Words really can't describe it. He had his tom-toms on his left side tuned up like the white keys on a piano. He was the greatest drum clinic I've seen in this town. Absolutely amazing. He even thanked Frank for establishing him in the music world. Blew my fucking mind. Like I said, can't even describe it. - Sun, 1 Jun 2003 5:27am
skeptic | Why wasn't this an actual gig? A "clinic" implies a good player showing off his chops but ultimately not doing much in the way of actual music. Bozzio hasn't done much in the last decade or so has he? I hear he did a solo gig somewhere that was pretty good, just drums. Clinics seem so, well. clinical, like it's a bunch of showing off of licks and tricks. Did anybody actually learn anything? At least it was reasonably cheap. - Sun, 1 Jun 2003 1:09pm
Anonymous | Thats why it is called a CLINIC. - Sun, 1 Jun 2003 3:18pm
Donnie Black | I learned that I don't practise near enough. He's going out on tour with Jeff Beck this Summer, and does plenty of recording with other people. (he's a hired gun) I find it always an awesome experience to see someone like this, and watch in amazement as they do what they do. When he talked and fielded questions, I think everyone was learning. A guitar player friend of mine was in attendance, and he too was blown away. I think you have to appreciate musical instruments for more than just what makes the noise, to get what a 'clinic' is.... and it's obviously not everyone's bag. As for drummers, I think anybody would have been enlightened. - Sun, 1 Jun 2003 11:31pm
