100 + kids for this one. Thanks to David for setting this one up. We'd love to play again. Was cool to play with Blind State again with their Rage Against the Machine groove. Derek from Kickback was there checkin out their new bass player in action (in BS). Not the loudest crowd we've played for but we had fun. Seeing the look of horror on a couple of kids faces when AllFather blasted into their first song made the whole trip worth while. AllFather are super tight and definitley in tour shape. Wierd atmosphere as the kids seemed more interested in the fights outside than the bands and some kids actually lit some recycle structures on fire. Fucked up. - Sat, 10 May 2003 3:23am
stank ass I only caught All Father. They were good. Hope the singer's able to speak this morning.

Some kids were acting like total morons. I felt really old. I felt sorry for the poor, small, grey-haired woman/bouncer working the door. - Sat, 10 May 2003 1:52pm
The Honkytonk Man The Shawnigan show was excellent. Great turnout and a lot of fun. I would definately go back there for another show. Good times. - Sat, 10 May 2003 8:24pm
Anonymous These bands all REALLY REALLY suck. I was there. Boy, talk about freeze dried boredom.

I suggest you sell your instruments, get paper routes, etc. - Sun, 11 May 2003 12:52am

Yokel People in Shawnigan Lake have always struck me as being a little bit behind the times.. kinda like when you visit a foreign country and all the movies on the theatres are the ones on video back home. - Sun, 11 May 2003 5:33am

Olde Style Pfft. If you think Gallows or Allfather cannot play, then you are a stupid child. Damn hicks, have no clue. Go jump in the quarry you yokels. - Sun, 11 May 2003 2:25pm
stank ass who was your favorite person there? mine was the ~25 year old rocker with the shitty tattoos. They looked like kids drawings on his arms. One was a smiling sun and the other was a big, melted glob of blue ink. - Sun, 11 May 2003 3:14pm
band mango geez.. I was thinking Shawnigan might be a cool new place to play shows at.. but after seeing this BS and hearing about all the fights and lighting of fires, Id have to say HELL NO to playing a show in that shithole. Sounds like Shawnigan kids relly suck. - Sun, 11 May 2003 3:32pm
waterinmyveins My father is one of the police officers here. They have been talking and that might be the last show there, due to all the tomfoolery. They are going to insist on more staff/bouncers and a sort of police participation (ie. patrolling the parking lot). Suxs cause we got nothing up here. And while we are at it lets slag some of the individuals that came out. Specially the rocker with the bad tattoo. What are you immature? He must have stolen the teeny bopper you were to scared to approach. Nice mentallity. I have three tattoo's, they all suck shit and I've got to live with them but I would do them again if I had the chance. You might remember me I had a green cobwed on my left shoulder. It was never finished because, well, my mother said no. Now i'm 20 and fuckin broke, so one day it will be finished. What's one persons garbage, is anothers treasure.

Please don't forget about us up here, now that we have a taste of reality, it will only be worse. Unless you rockers support us and come out again. Like every few weeks. Great show even though it sucked and I will be there again cause nothing ever happens out here. Werd to the wise "any show will pack the place, us kids have nothing to do and there is allot of us!"

Can you tell that I don't get out much? Blah Blah Blah

We would play there again. But your right about the kids coming out just for something to do. They seemed more interested in whose fighting who outside than the fact that a premier metal band, beginning thier North American tour, is grinding it out before their very eyes!!!! - Sun, 11 May 2003 4:25pm
stank ass It's too bad that that'll probably be the last show. I figured as much when we saw the recycling bins on fire were driving away and the fights outside the show and kids drinking right outside the show while being beligerant.

I only saw 1 person working the door when I went in to see the last band. Like I said, she was a smaller, grey-haired lady. That's bullshit. There should have been more people than just one or two people's mom's working the door. Like maybe a couple of bigger guys or something. When we left there were two relatively jocko guys about to duke it out. The poor woman was in between the two of them. She could have easily been knocked out with one punch from either of those drunks.

As for the tattoos, yeah, pretty shitty of me to raz on about that guy. He did crack me up a couple of times. I too have a number of shitty tattoos... well, one really bad one. I've never been to a Shawnigan show even though I spend a lot of time here. Like someone else said, it seemss kind of behind in the times a bit. Maybe I'm wrong. I was at the Swan last night, which kind of proved my theory to me again. It was fun though.

I noticed that the kids in the mosh were knocking the hell out of each other to the ground and not helping each other up. That's kind of bunk. - Sun, 11 May 2003 5:57pm

haha i jump in during our set, knocked someone down, went around the pit back to where I started and there he was, still on the ground!!!! Strange folk in dem parts - Sun, 11 May 2003 9:00pm
Anonymous So why didn't you help him back up if you knocked him down, you meathead? You're just as strange as the rest of those inbreds. And it's funny, I saw lots of people helping each other up. Hmmm. - Tue, 13 May 2003 12:46am

David I organized the Shawnigan show and with everything that's being said on here I'd like to say a few words in my defence. First off, the show itself went quite well: all the bands showed up beforehand and played on time, the crowd INSIDE was pretty good, and there was only one technical difficulty in the night and it was dealt with promptly. There are a few things people have said here that I don't agree with though-- in regards to people being thrown down and left there, I helped up EVERY person I saw that got knocked down and from what I saw throughout the whole night (not just Allfather's set) and from what other people have told me they saw, most people were helping each other up when they got knocked down. Naturally, not everyone is going to be helped up but for the most part everyone was being really good about it. Next, the woman handling the door is named Sue, she has been involved in a ton of organizing and volunteering for all-ages shows in the area so she knows how it all works, and she had another volunteer helping her do the doors up until early into Allfather's set when she told the other door person that she could handle the rest by herself because there wasn't much left to do. Besides, there was never a problem with the door, all the idiots were belligerent drunks outside while the paying attendees were all relatively well-behaved. And lastly, Sue never dealt with any of the shit that was going on outside by herself and I know because I and another volunteer were there with her when we were trying to calm some scrapper down. When it was obvious that he could not be reasoned with, I grabbed everyone who was not part of his crowd and we all went back inside so as to avoid any further bullshit. All I can imagine is that I maybe looked like part of the problem as opposed to part of the solution but rest assured, I was there and didn't let Sue go deal with those idiots alone. As for the recycling bins being lit on fire... what can I say? Some peoples stupidity knows no bounds. Someone at the show informed Sue and I about it early on and the cops were called right away, though I'm sure someone else must have already contacted them. It really fucking sucks that a few people have to come and ruin it for everyone because if it wasn't for a handful of them the show would have gone off without any problems. Oh well, I'll have to see if there's a possibility for any future shows, albeit with security guards patrolling the parking lot. I'd certainly like to try a non-metal show and see if the security is warranted. Thanx to all the band and everyone who came out and supported anyway! - Tue, 13 May 2003 11:43pm

Well i think its a great opportunity to play in the up island communities. If it happend on a regular basis they would know how to handle it. Kinda like Mr Hell and sleeping with his nightlight on. The more he sleeps without it, the more he wont wimper and cry when the lights go out - Wed, 14 May 2003 2:57pm
Dusty our band played up in shawnagan a year or so ago and it was the best show to date. tons of kids came out, rocked hard during our set, hung out after the show and bought a shitload of cd's and t-shirts. no fights and nothing got trashed, it's a shame that everyone has to point fingers and trash talk everyone on this sight just because some dumb fucks decided to light something on fire or some testosterone pumped meatheads decided to fight. anon! - Wed, 14 May 2003 3:47pm
Denyss its always tragic when a few pubescent brawlers decide to ruin things for the ones who are there to support a scene. example, every show in Vernon BC from here on end had to be cancelled due to the same type of ignorant display of complete stupidity. thus, ourselves and many other touring bands will miss out on a show. show a little respect for the bands, promoters and scenesters and leave the violence in your homemade WWF ring. - Thu, 15 May 2003 2:56am
