Jesse Just so you know. The Brand New Skafest web site has just been launched. I'm in the process of gathering some photos for the gallery section, so if anybody would like to contribute photos from last year's skafest, or the skatalites show last night, let me know. The more the better. - Tue, 6 May 2003 6:31pm

ENIGMATICA ENTERTAINMENT I just wanted to say a huge thanks to the 500 some odd people of Victoria and the rest of the Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands for coming out to see THE LEGARDARY SKATALITES on Monday, May 5th/2003 @ Legends on Douglas!
Those that attended had their hearts lifted into space.

Those Rapskallions were amazing! I was very happy to see what Allan and the boys put together for this new and exciting project. I really look forward to seeing more of Those Rapskallions in the near future.

Props to the members of both the Kiltlifters (Scott Rounding and Matt Carter as well as the Bloodwarmers (Aaron, Johnny, Allan) + Tyson (keyboards) and the drummer (I'm sorry I forgot your name!). Sweet!!!!!!!

Revelation Sound gave a nice contrast to Those Rapskallions with their dub/reggae sounds. Good set before the SKATALITES.

And then... THE SKATALITES put me in music heaven. So many tunes were played in the jazz, reggae and ska realms. They continuously played for just over 2 hours. Their music burst all the stress pores in my body, I barely stop smiling or moving as long as I was listening to them. One of my favorite moments was when they played Independence Anniversary Ska and Freedom Sound. I also really enjoyed James Bond and Exodus. Cedric Im' Brooks did the band well with singing Simmer Down. He sounded awesome! As I was discussing with a friend of mine who is an excellent musician, there were just so many songs they threw into their set. They did this a lot when they'd go into playing medleys. There would be 4 - 5 different ol' school songs in one continous streak.

Another wonderful thing about the SKATALITES was that they were so friendly, laid back and positive. Everyone from the two Lloyds to Lester Sterling to Cedric and the rest of the guys (Will Clark, Devon James,Ken Stewart and Greg Glassman) were so good natured. Look out for the work that Gregg Glassman is doing with his jazz ensemble in New York. Turns out that Sean Drabbit who used to be in Sphere with Kia played with him which was a nice surprise. The band was approachable and saw to it all their fans were happy. Those that were hard core went and got CDs signed and hung out. One of the musicians in Those Rapskallions got a nice little lesson from Lester Sterling!

Also, another special shout out to Ken Stewart (keyboarder and manager for the Skatalites) His committment to making sure this show happened despite some very difficult and stressful obstacles solidified my faith in the band and the fact that the SKATALITES love "HAL THEIR SKATALITES FANS" (as Lloyd Brevetts says)-I felt the good vibes so much.

They also told me they loved the vibes out here and they really want to come again very soon. They see the love for ska and reggae on this Island and they will be back as long as their members are alive.

Other special shout outs to the following people who helped make this possible:
