brad ok...apart from the overwhelming Frat Party atmosphere...the show went off well, glad to see that room back open for live bands...sound was so-so, Mcgillicuddy's played very well, the crowd was fairly supportive, and quite a few people were up dancing etc. for them. could of had a bit more participation for their great contests...oh well.. i think alot of people were scared off by the $12.00 cover...of which neither band had control of..the pants were good as usuall, although they must have been saving the "A" list of songs for later in the set...but the crowd was packed onto the floor and having a blast. too bad this show wasn't on a weekend...i have just over 5 hours to get up for work..........off to la la land.... - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 2:30am
Japanese Air Force Do you know if the sound was bad due to the sound system in there, or was it just an off night for the sound guy? I haven't checked the room out since it re-opened, but I've got fond memories of playing Harpos.

If it's a good room, it'd be sweet to play there again. - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 3:53am
Anonymous Sorry. We weren't allowed into the Mcgillicuddy's because of dress code: ie. green army pants.

FUCK the Upper Lounge. - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 4:36am
Anonymous BUT the AWT show was good. - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 4:37am
S.V. I agree with the frat remark. It was a little freaky being in a room full of college clones. I'd never heard of the Town Pants, but I would of definitely see them again. There was an over abundance of cover songs though (not all Irish). I would like to hear more original tunes. I was surprised that nobody covered The Easter Rebellion/Foggy Dew, being St. Pat's Day and all. The Irish Dancers were a bonus!

The Upstairs Lounge is a far, far cry from Harpos. Waaay too bright...far too many irritating swirling lights. No dark draft on tap (a terrible sin!). Even when I found they had dark in the bottle, they ran out before 10:30!!! Not sure If I'd venture there again. Good thing the bands were good because I normally balk at a $12 cover. All in all though, a good night for dancing. - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 1:22pm
Justin if they didn't charge sooo much for cover i think i would've gone there... looks nice inside, but bright... sux that its such a snobby place, meh... in time things will may change - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 6:05pm
brad ya..i had two pints of hermans and the keg was dry next trip to the bar. the $4.00 coat check was nice too. i think the upper lounge is gonna cater to the "upper class" , it would have to be a great band before i paid to go back. also after forking out the cash to get in ...i ran into a girl i knew who said she and a bunch of other people who were waiting in line down at Darcy's were let in for free..i guess to try and fill the upstairs...ya ...i was impressed. - Tue, 18 Mar 2003 8:48pm
Anonymous the so called upper class in this town doesnt go for live music in bars and i wouldnt want to play for them anyways
that bar shall surely fail!
long live soundgarden and lucky and hopefully the red lion has a cool live set up when it re-opens
$4.00 COAT CHECK!!!!?????
not for this guy - Wed, 19 Mar 2003 4:19am
S.V. I got suckered by the coat check too, though I thought the $4.00 was for both my friend's and my gear (guess they thought it was all mine)...and I was thinking $2.00 was too much for a coat check :) Then the witch at the coat check kept my $1 change as a tip without asking....nasty scrag!

Between the outrageous cover charge, expensive swill they call beer and the coat check bitch, it will be a long time before I darken their door again. I just hope the bands were well compensated, because UL must of made a small fortune from the door. Yeah gimmee Sound Garden or Thursdays any day, over that sad excuse for a watering hole. - Wed, 19 Mar 2003 9:45am
Anonymous Thanks all for the review, Had plans to go there this Friday night to see Stephen Franks and does anyboby who he is(from Van)? only cause I was given a pass ,then off to catch the T.W. trib. at Thursdays, sounds like I should just skip the U.L.!! - Wed, 19 Mar 2003 2:08pm
SweetGrass Wow...what's up with the dress code???
I have very fond memories of Harpo's and I can't believe the exclusivity this place is already displaying. I hope that as they get warmed up they'll also lighten up and let their place evolve.Still missing harpo's... - Thu, 20 Mar 2003 2:30am

Hey thanks to everyone who came out. Thanks to the bar and the Town Pants for letting us play at the last minute. To anyone who came to see us, we' re sorry we didn' t realize there was a dress code, expensive coat check, etc. This Saturday we' re playing an all ager up at the Fernwood Community Centre with Betty Ford, The Rampant, Machine Gun Kelly, and Oi Division, so you can come on out and see us for 1/12 of the price. (That' s a measly $1 for y' all). Show starts at 6:00p sharp and runs till 11:00p, so get there early. Yes we will be headlining this one. - Thu, 20 Mar 2003 11:37am
