Sati User Info... | I must say I was a little surprised to see Porky up there! They haven't been to Vic in recent months yet, have they? I didn't expect them to be half as good as they were. Don't think twice about going! And Spreadeagle apparently got their gear stolen a while ago - there's a benefit for them tonight at the cobalt they & all their friends are playing. it'll be craaaaazy.. - Fri, 25 Jan 2008 9:21pm Edited: Fri, 25 Jan 2008 9:22pm
CHAMPIONOFHELL User Info... | This show is guaranteed to be wicked! I have seen SNFU recently in Vancouver, once at the Cobalt and once at The Anza club on New Year's Eve. Both show went off. Mr. Hell User Info... | Besides past issues with security dragging their asses on letting people into the venue and drink prices that could be a buck or 2 less than they are, Sugar is a great venue for loud rock and punk. - Thu, 31 Jan 2008 1:59pm

Delilah Squid User Info... | Kick-assery all around! Solid, rocking performances from each band. Easily one of the most exciting shows and musically engaging lineups I've seen in this city. All the images aren't finished yet, but here's some of the opening band, Crown the Wolf. If you missed them, too bad for you. But they're playing again soon, so do yourself a favour and go check them out. - Sat, 2 Feb 2008 9:11am

Delilah Squid User Info... | There are many more, but you'll have to go check them out on the Delilah Squid myspace page (when it's not shutting down for no reason), or facebook. And may I commend Sugar on having by far the very best lighting setup of any club in Victoria, which made taking Photographs of the bands fun and exciting, versus blurry and disappointing. - Sun, 3 Feb 2008 2:37am
mikey User Info... | I had a blast. Run Like Hell were fucking superb. If you don't like RLH then your ears are retarded and need replacement. Oi! yous guys! get that CD out already! I missed most of Crown the Wolf which made me sad as Sugar is an awesome venue and I wanted to hear CTW thru the monster system. I was quite underwhelmed by Spread Eagle. Maybe I just wasn't drunk enough for their brand of cheesey cool. Three guitars is pretty nifty though. I knew I was gonna have to miss SNFU, but I'm more metal than punk anyway. - Sun, 3 Feb 2008 8:40pm
Spinvis User Info... | Crown the Wolf & Run Like Hell were awesome! My favorite acts of the night thats forsure. Such memorable catchy tunes, looking forward to seeing this pair again!! - Mon, 4 Feb 2008 7:33am
_Griphin_ User Info... | Sati, until Sugar supports the non-drinkers better then what they do now, I'll feel like spending my money there. Sugar don't give a shit about people that don't drink, only cause financially they make more money from the power drinkers. Regardless of the fact that I drink now, it was a real slap in the face when I couldn't drink. I'm pissed that I missed SNFU cause I wanted to see how Chi was doing. Perhaps next time they'll play somewhere else. Besides, security at Sugar needs to be trained better, they just can't handle the large crowds. (eg. Cannibal Corpse) - Mon, 4 Feb 2008 12:22pm Edited: Mon, 4 Feb 2008 12:24pm
Spinvis User Info... | The security at Sugar is hilarious. They asked me if I had a knife on me! also asked about where my cigareettes are. I dont smoke? and I dont think I'd carry around a knife haha I didn't think I looked like someone that would cause so much trouble :P:P Btw - what is a way that Sugar will support non drinkers? You must say the same about any venue/bar over 19? In the show listings there's plenty of all ages shows you can go to that support non drinkers. - Mon, 4 Feb 2008 1:00pm Edited: Mon, 4 Feb 2008 1:03pm
ricky jak User Info... | Well i got metal detected at the door as well as a good pocket feel up... but what the hell... the world is getting crazier. or? I showed the doorman my ID upside-down so it read i was born in 99. He looked at it and started to do the math, then he looked at me again. Ha Ha ha... still it makes me feel good when a doorman asks an old man like me for ID. But i do look young for my age. I usually wink at the doorman and ask him when his shift is over. Yeah all you stupid non-drinkers can quite complaining about pop and water prices... the object is to smuggle a two litre of pop or water in your underwear then if the doorman notices he will be in for a real feel. anyway the show is about the music... here's my opinion if anyone really cares: Crown the Wolf = one of my favorite new bands. Great sound... i spent a fair bit of time driving around listening to Kyuss years ago and i get that same feeling from Crown the Wolf. I really dig thier sound... but the stage presence is kinda like watching trees on a day with no wind. Powerfull stomping trees but they weren't exactly ripping up the stage at this show anyway. still one of my favorite new sounding bands. Run Like Hell = yeah man.... I work in Langford at the Rona and on the weekends I have a little metal band. These dudes rock in maybe a metallica way. Again I like thier sound and they are worth seeing.... metal that you can hear not filled up with blobs of noise and speed. Just goood metal. Spread Eagle = well... I liked them this time better. But still with all these guitars on stage at times it gets filled up with blobs of noise and speed... They are a force though and i do hear a little misfits/denim demon as well as some fine guitar solos. They rock and i hear they might be playing the Island Invasion hoit-rod weekend this year... I think i will leave the kids at home that night. SNFU = a man who is one of the legendary voices of Canadian punk. I like SNFU and the album "No one else wanted to Play" is a classic that you should own, or steal from your moms record collection. So here we have the Chi Pig some twenty five years later executing the punks... For its age its fine. I think if you never got to see them twenty five years ago ,like i did, then to see them now is still O.K. Its not like seeing a washed up Trooper or Loverboy. SNFU are fine and at least this time i got to go home to my nice warm bed after the show unlike when i saw them 25 years ago i slept in a goodwill box. "that's all folks" -porky pig jaK - Mon, 4 Feb 2008 2:28pm
Helonwheels User Info... | I was only out for a short time Friday night - I had to be there to show support ( and undying love!) to my good friends in Crowm the Wolf. They sounded great, i am totally stoked for them as they continue rippin' up the rock shows! I know they will be thrilled to hear the Kyuss comparison ( Ricky Jak- good to see you!). GREAT to see some old friends, great to be out of the house ( slow and steady), good to get out and tweak my neck/ shoulder from rockn my head to CTW kick ass tunes! I love you guys! Thanks for the pulled muscles! - Mon, 4 Feb 2008 3:51pm
trevor corey User Info... | Hey Griphin, Mr Chi Pig looks to me like he is not "doing" very good. He sounded good, put on a good show, but yikes. 'nuff said. Sugar is a good venue. Security did not interupt the mosh, not even once. I'm okay with the METAL detector, better than a feel up. Hey Ricky, I got id'd too! .....my ears are still ringing. Is there a Dr in tewh house? - Mon, 4 Feb 2008 3:52pm Edited: Mon, 4 Feb 2008 6:15pm
Sati User Info... | Good to hear a fun time was had! Awesome to see pictures up too. SpreadEagle's drummer's killer, no? Trevor, could you please not speculate about Chi? I'm pretty sure it bugs him. Yes, he's eccentric but I've seen him work really hard over the last couple years, becoming a ton more outgoing AND genuinely happy in the process. So to see him doing his thing again and throwing a girl easily 3X his size off his stage without a moment's hesitation, well, GO CHI! He's a champ. And Griphin, what makes you think the rest of us aren't harbouring little grudges about bars or people? But I can understand it taking a lot of effort to hit crazier shows sometimes, especially when you're not in the best of health. I tend to avoid packed ones too, just cuz I need some space. - Tue, 5 Feb 2008 9:39am Edited: Tue, 5 Feb 2008 9:43am
helonwheels User Info... | P.S. Awesome Pics Delilah Squid! - Tue, 5 Feb 2008 2:58pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | Chi Pig being a public figure opens him to speculation. That is a price of fronting a band for all those years. He isn't looking too healthy, but who knows. When I was at the 7-11 across the street, Chi came in and the employee guy immediately descended on him and started treating him like a homeless meth trouble maker. It escalated to the point of Chi telling the guy to fuck off and Pig being escorted out unceremoniously by his arm. In all fairness, Chi Pig reeked of hard booze so it's easy to see why he was hassled. Anyway... Great venue and sound as always. Crown The Wolf grooved out in a majestic way taking everyone out on a desert highway in a convertible with a big bag of weed and a texas mickey of Wiser's Deluxe. The crowd dug it and I look forward to hearing more material. Run Like Hell had a blast up there. Felt good and made very few mistakes. People said it was sounding good out front, so I am going with that. It would be nice to hear it from the floor sometime. Spread Eagle was overflowing with energy and proceeded to whip the crowd into a frenzy. Great performance all around and the solos were very entertaining. Nice guys too. SNFU were musically tight and Chi Pig was definitely giving it his all which was impressive in itself considering his age and the state he seems to be in. The crowd ate it up and puffed wheat was thrown, polluting the air with horrid aroma. Much thanks to Ira and Heather for doing this show and making it a success! The way they treat opening bands should be practiced by all promoters all over. Wouldn't hesitate to help them in any way required in the future. Delilah Squid took some killer pictures and we love her work! I am sure we will begin to see her photography all over this town very soon. Thank you Ms. DS! Everyone who came down made it go off! Our hats off to you. - Tue, 5 Feb 2008 3:41pm Edited: Tue, 5 Feb 2008 3:42pm
trevor corey User Info... | Sorry Sati, you're right. I wasn't actually speculating, I was just worried. I looked like that once, and people used to wrongly speculate as to why. - Tue, 5 Feb 2008 4:09pm

Mr. Hell User Info... | Good to hear he is well. Obviously the old rule goes, don't judge a book by it cover. He had an abundance of energy on the stage, so that sums up where he's at. Good for him for staying at it. - Wed, 6 Feb 2008 12:08pm Edited: Wed, 6 Feb 2008 2:26pm

Sati User Info... | Holy crap, lots went on here! Thats right, it is impressive how much energy & character he exudes in spite of whatever it is that makes people wonder. I can't say I know him well, but I see him all the time & we've had the occasional beer. He's one of the sharper, wittier AND more sensitive people out there, and he really has become happier than most. Having a good friend on your side might do that! And yeah, people gage health & success in different ways. No worries Trevor, I know you said it out of concern. I've made similar comments on here about other performers I didn't know and have caught shit for it. About it being ok cuz he's a public figure: so are the Dayglos and if similar inuendos were made about them you guys would have something to say. Chi's one of ours. - Thu, 7 Feb 2008 4:23pm Edited: Thu, 7 Feb 2008 4:26pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | I can assure you if you speculated about the Dayglos, it wouldn't hurt my feelings. It's all just speculation. All that really matters is what the truth is. What people think they know is not important. - Thu, 7 Feb 2008 4:26pm Edited: Thu, 7 Feb 2008 4:28pm

Sati User Info... | Some of us aren't always able to meet expectations. Its the shame of being human. I want to make clear that my last post wasn't made in reference to Chi - I seriously don't know him very well. This discussion has become quite hypothetical. - Thu, 7 Feb 2008 4:43pm Edited: Thu, 7 Feb 2008 4:44pm
Mr. Hell User Info... | The reality of it is people will assume things by what they see. It's great that there are friends who will step up and set the record straight. Being in the spotlight opens one up to more speculation. If anything, that could be used as fuel to get healthier and prove detractors wrong. - Thu, 7 Feb 2008 4:47pm

Ty Stranglehold User Info... | Having known Chi for 20 years and having spent a couple of hours with him before the show last week, I can tell you that he's doing better than I've seen him for a long time. I am so thankful for that too, because I will tell you this: Mr. Chi Pig is the best punk rock frontman EVER!!! Peroid. The combination of artfulness, vitrol, mania, and pure showmanship put him leaps and bounds. I'm going to be working closley with him in the next few months and I can't wait to get some more of his crazy stories on tape! While I'm spouting off, I should mention that I don't feel that it can be SNFU with Marc Belke. He does for the band musically what Chi does lyricly, and it isn't the same without him. That said, the band last week were EXCELLENT! I thought they did a great job and it was good to see Chi in action again, but there will always be that peice missing. my two cents on that. - Thu, 7 Feb 2008 8:26pm
Chip Shetfield User Info... | I agree with you Ty about both Chi being an incredible frontman, and the band not being the same without Marc. I thought the new incarnation was supposed to be playing under the name 'AsSNFU'. Here's what the SNFU myspace page (I'm guessing run by Marc) has to say: "SNFU, one of the longest running, most popular Canadian punk rock acts, called it quits for good in 2005. Between 1982 and 2005, the band played thousands of shows around the world, and recorded eight albums for some of punk rock's most influential labels... But now, sadly, the members of SNFU are all pursuing other projects. Mr. Chi Pig is playing shows as "AsSnfu" - which are sometimes 'accidentally' advertised as SNFU shows. However, Chi's band features no other original members." That said I will always see anything with Chi, as he's such a great performer. I hope he resurrects Slaveco. - Fri, 8 Feb 2008 2:36pm
ricky jak User Info... | ty... front men!....what about Mitch Funk? I really enjoyed Wimpy Roy too. and i have to say Nardwar is entertaining. I do agree Chi is one of the finest front men yes but lets not forget the others... haven't had my coffee yet and although I understand what this Chi thing is.... I saw him blow his nose on the audience the other night and it made me feel bad. But hey its the music, and SNFU are great Canadin punk. In the old days i remeber seeing wimpy roy getting gobbed on but it was punk back then. and yes i felt it a little gross even back then. better go get a coffee - ricko - Sat, 9 Feb 2008 8:57am
Ty Stranglehold User Info... | Those guys are all great Ricky, but I stand by my choice. There are many amazing front guys worldwide, but few bring the skill and show that Chi does. Agreed the snot and such is pretty gross though. - Sat, 9 Feb 2008 9:58am
cc User Info... | this was a cool show for us to play run like hell is our band we werent sure how well we would be recieved because we arent really punk we have a many elements to our sound and it was really cool to get alot of compliments on our set crown the wolf were exellent and snfu were most accomodating by striking thier drum kit and letting all the bands use thier bass cabinet chi was a weird cat but i kinda expected that in all his weirdness he was still a good guy i thought he took his booting from 7-11 in stride we were just happy to play to an audience who might not have known who we were good times for sure except for the fool who decided to set off stink bombs.............punk gigs need no help with extra smells oh well hope all in attendance like what we laid down come to lucky for the cancer bats show fri march 7th we are supporting them that night cheers CC from Run Like Hell - Wed, 5 Mar 2008 4:22am Edited: Wed, 5 Mar 2008 4:24am
