was everything I expected and more. great turnout (word of mouth works apparently!) and great bands. good to see cxjx open. hierophant were incredible. breaking point too. ghostlimb blew me away. I hadn't been stoked on the myspace songs (granted, I only listened for a minute or so) but the live show wa sgreat. a three piece powerhouse that sounded like four or five musicians. the guitarist was insane and managed to take on the role of super technical guitar work while doing tons of vocals. there was kind of a melodic framework, I appreciate the song structure being something outside of traditional grind. dangers were the in-your-face wild hardcore that victoria ha salready come to love. graf orlock were so great. such nice guys and they fucking blow victoria away.

I love how bands like these connect with Victoria and love the scene and city. we have something pretty cool here. and if there was a Victoria "heavy all-ager favourite band list" then Dangers and Graf Orlock would totally be on it. I hope both come back soon. I hope Gorlock tell some of the other sweet California bands about Victoria. and I kind of really want Comadre to come up here sometime.

the vocals were always too quiet. that sucks for bands like these because they're screaming their throats out and, if they can't hear themselves, they're probably going to be louder and damage their vocal cords. it's weird cause there was a full in-house PA system at the vic event center and people were constantly telling the vic event center sound guy to crank it up. back when graf orlock played at the sunset room, I used the hardcore scene's ghetto PA system and the vocals were totally loud enough. - Tue, 8 Jan 2008 9:25am

I was blaming the sound guy too, but the fact is, it wasn't his fault. The way VEC is setup, is for bands to use the stage, SO, the PA monitors are positioned in front of the stage... The bands were playing in front of the PA monitors and so if he turned it up any more, it fed back. Just kinda shitty sitchee-ation. Beyond that, the show was awesome, again, good turnout, and Ghostlimb are probably one of my new favourite bands. - Tue, 8 Jan 2008 11:53am

What a night. Hierophant were crushing as always, Breaking Point played a solid set, Ghostlimb were intense as hell and kind of surprised me, Dangers lived up to all the hype I've heard, Graf (or Gorlock as they now seem to like to call themselves) were of course completely amazing. Us getting to play was so cool, thanks to Jodi for letting us and to everyone who watched for not booing us off the stage (and in fact actually having overwhelmingly positive things to say, despite that we were not at our best). - Tue, 8 Jan 2008 12:05pm Edited: Tue, 8 Jan 2008 1:09pm
